Unpacking#

To unpack games, use either UXM by Nordgaren, or Nuxe by JKAnderson.
To unpack BND files, use WitchyBND by ividyon.

Reading ESD Files#

Reading ESD files will require ESDTools.
Either drop an .esd file onto the executable or have a file association with ESDTools (Right Click => Open with)

However, ESDTools will not work off the bat since the regulation file (enc_regulation.bnd.dcx) is still encrypted.
To decrypt the regulation file, you must first unpack it with WitchyBND, and then repack it.
WitchyBND will warn you about repacking the regulation file with multiple prompts. Unless you haven't made a copy of the reg. file, press Y for all of the prompts.

WitchyBND will make a backup file anyway (enc_regulation.bnd.dcx.bak), but it's best to be on the safe side and make a copy of the original.

Tools#

For general viewing use Smithbox, a successor of DSMapStudio made by vawser. It has a Map Editor, Model Viewer, Param Editor, Text Editor, and more.
For viewing and extracting audio, use foobar2000 along with the vgmstream plugin.

Animations#

Unlike other FromSoftware games, DS2 uses NaturalMotion's Morpheme tool for animations instead of Havok.

Examining animations was impossible until recently, with MorphemeEditor by LordRadai.
