This page contains notes for the game Clu Clu Land (NES).
Animal Crossing (USA) ROM#
The version of Clu Clu Land present in Animal Crossing appears to be a modified World ROM - it's the same as said ROM but prefixed with 0x3FE0 bytes of 00, then EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA EA A5 10 29 02 60 (27 NOPs followed by LDA $10; AND #$02; RTS).
This replaces the code originally located at 0x358C (LDA $10; AND #$02) but prefixes it with 27 NOPs, resulting in an extra delay of 54 CPU cycles before the intended instructions. This may have been done to work around frame timing issues in the emulator.
The original game has no unique code at CPU $8000-$BFFF, it is only 16KiB in size. The PRG-ROM was expanded to 32KiB solely to insert this new code, much like the version of Donkey Kong also present in Animal Crossing.
The following bytes were also altered (using PRG-ROM offsets from the original version):
- 0x561 -
80to08, which fixes the 3,000-point bonus bug. - 0x358C -
A5 10 29 02=LDA $10; AND #$02to20 E0 BF EA=JSR $BFE0; NOP, which calls the newly inserted code described above. (the extra NOP is for padding out the patched bytes)
