This page contains notes for the game Blender Bros..
Text Encoding#
The game text internally uses a modified version of the Shift-JIS encoding standard, even though the final font is rendered as half-width characters:
- Latin alphanumeric characters: They follow the codepoints of the full-width Latin characters from Shift-JIS, rather than ASCII. The released English localization makes use of them.
- Japanese Hiragana / Katakana / Punctuation: The font is big enough to have placeholders for these, but they're mostly blanked out, except for some punctuation.
- European accentuated characters: They're overwriting the katakana characters in the font. The unused European localizations properly make use of them.
The font doesn't seem to have included kanji characters, judging from its size and the game's target audience.
Additionally, there's some single characters that are used throughout the script as formatting tags. They tend to be single kanji characters that are unlikely to have been included in the font or the actual script. These kanji often describe what the tag does.
- 行 : Line break. Means "line".
- 頁 : New page, waits for player input to display next text box. Means "page".
- 終 : End of text. Means "end".
- 即選終: After Yes/No choices. Mean "agree", "choose", "end".
