On February 1, 2023, a development copy of Portal 2 was leaked. This appears to be a build of the game given to licensees. Unfortunately source code and content sources are not included, but it does contain debugging symbols that can be used to decompile the game, as well as a folder called sdktools with various leftover files.

Early F-STOP Maya script#

In sdktools/maya/tf/scripts/tfBatchProcessGeneric.mel there is code for what at first glance seems to be a script for tf2 to convert smd files to dmx files. But instead of tf being used as the name of the content folder, there is a project with the name 'aperture', and instead of a tf2 model, it is converting a modified version of the hl2 zombie model. Aperture was an early name for F-STOP, back when it was a Directed Design Experiment.

The presets#

In sdktools/presets/portal2 there is the majority of the beta information included in this build. These preset files were used with maya and an old plugin for maya called zooToolbox. Most of these files are encoded in a format not used in other software, but since zooToolbox is open source there is a program to decode these files.
