Leftover Early Palettes

This is a sub-page of Development:Pokémon Diamond and Pearl/Sprites.

Within the initial commit of sprites for each Pokemon, that being March 12 2006 for most Pokemon, and June 27 2006 for some specific Sinnoh Pokemon, the shiny palette file would contain a palette that is incompatible with the current sprites at that point in development. This is because the shiny palette is leftover from an earlier version of the normal palette, as before being updated to actually be the proper shiny colors, it was just created as a copy of the normal palette. Then, as the normal palette was updated over time, the shiny palette file would be left out of this update, still using the older version of the normal palette that would then be incompatible with the current sprites. This sometimes results in broken-looking sprites.
