Pokémon Names (ポケモン名)#

Rejected Names#

Skorupi's final French name (Rapion) is listed among the rejected entries here, as "Drapion" was preferred over it (because it "sounded better"), though this was later rejected as they realized it was the name of its evolution in English. Also note that Piplup and Kricketot have blank entries.

Early Name

Final Name

Explanation

Reason for Rejection

Boscara

Boskara

"bosquet" (English: grove) + "carapace" (English: shell).
When you hear the word "carapace" (English: shell) in French, you immediately think of a turtle. To refer to a seashell, the French use another word, "coquille".

*Don't use (legal check).

Primabraz

Simiabraz

"primate" + "brasier" (English: burning material, big fire).
This name sounds powerful.

*Don't use (trademark search).
*"prima" but a name that incorporates "prim...." may be ok.[*]

Mimisange

Etourmi

"mimi" (English: cute) + "mésange" (English: tit).

*Don't use (names using "starling" are good).

Etourvol

"mésange" (English: tit) + "vol" (English: flying).

*Don't use ("Etourvol" is a better match with Starly's name).

Méraptor

Etouraptor

"mésange" (English: tit) + the ending "raptor" ("rapace" (English: predatory). It's got a powerful impression.

*Don't use (names using "starling" are good).

Mérapace

"mésange"(English: tit) + "rapace" (English: predatory).

Vautourneau

"vautour" (predatory birds/vultures and condors) + "étourneau" (starling).

*Don't use ("Etouraptor" is a better match with Starly and Staravia's names).

Mynx

Lixy

"mini"+ "lynx".

*Don't use (trademark search).
*"Search revealed many web sites that use the term MYNX for sex toys and other "adult" uses. From a business perspective we stronlgy[sic] recommend not using this name. If NOE still wants the name we will need to consult with counsel on some names identified in the trademark search. We will wait for direction from NOE/TPC.[*]

Linxy

It comes from "lynx." It has a cute sound.

*Don't use (legal check).

Luxira

Luxray

"lux" (English: lux) + irradier (English: to ray, to shine).

*Don't use (since this Pokémon has the ability to see through things, try names that use words like "X-ray" or "fluoroscopy").

Proteksor

Dinoclier

"protection" (English: protection) + the strong ending "or".

*Don't use (Dinoclier is better).

Chenissieu

Papilord

"chenille" (English: bag worm) + "monsieur" (mister).

*Don't use (it's better to name it "moth" rather than "bagworm").

Cerigeon

Ceriflor

"cerise" (English: cherry) + "bourgeon" (English: bud).

*Don't use (a name that evokes the image of a "flower" is better than a "bud").

Gastérodon

Tritosor

"gastéropode" (English: gastropod) + "don" (used at the end of dinosaur names).

*Don't use (legal check).

Mongorive

Baudrive

"montgolfière" ([hot] air balloon, balloons used to transport people. (http://images.google.fr/images?svnum=10&hl=fr&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=montgolfiere&spell=1)) + "dériver" (English: drift).

*Don't use (Baudrive is better).

Gonfolfière

Grodrive

"gonflé" (English: inflated) + "montgolfière" (English: air ballon).

*Don't use (Grodrive is better).

Lapilouï

Laporeille

"lapin" (English: rabbit) + "ouïe" (hearing).
"Lapilouï" sounds better and cuter.

*Don't use ("Hearing" is not part of this Pokémon's characteristics).

Feufomage

Magirêve

"Feuforêve" (Misdreavus) + "magie" (English: magic).
Both names suit this Pokémon well, but "Magirêve" sounds better.

*Don't use (Magirêve is better).

Cormaître

Corboss

"Cornèbre" (Mukrow) & "corbeau" (English: crow) + "maître" (master).
"Maître" does not mean "mafia don".

*Don't use (it would be better if it had the meaning of "mafia don").

Mimicha

Chaglam

"mignon" (English: cute) + ""chat"" (English: cat).
Both names suit this Pokémon well, but "Chaglam" sounds cuter.

*Don't use (too similar to "MIMIGAL" (Spinarak) and "MIMITOSS" (Venonat)).

Charrible

Chaffreux

"chat" (English: cat) + "horrible" (English: ugly).
Both names suit this Pokémon, but "Chaffreux" sounds better.

*Don't use (Chaffreux is better).

Archéolux

Archéomire

"archéologie" (English: archeology) + "lux" (Greek for "light") (because light is reflected by a mirror).

"Lux" is not acceptable as it does not fit the Pokémon's image.

PONZAI

Manzaï

(Pronounced: Pon-zaii).
"Po" comes from "polisson," which means "mischievous". This was combined with "bonsai". The word "polisson" describes the innocent mischief of children, and has a cute feel to it.
The word "simuler" (to imitate, to pretend), which is the root of "Sudowoodo" [Simularbre], doesn't sound good when combined with "bonsai", so they said they would rather not use it if possible. Evolution can be expressed in terms of the relationship between "bonsai" and "arbre" (tree).

*Don't use (the difference is only between voiced and semi-voiced sounds).

BONZILOU

(Pronounced: Bonzi-loo).
This name is a combination of "Bonsai" and "filou", which means "mischievous".
The word "filou" describes the innocent mischief of children, and has a cute feel to it.

*Don't use (MANZAI is better).

MIMI

Mime Jr.

(Pronounced: Mee-mee). A variation of "M. MIME". "Mimi" also means "cute" in French.

*Don't use (MIME JR. is better).

Touravi

Ptiravi

"tout ravi" (totally pleased).
Both names give the impression of being small, but "Ptiravi" is cuter.

The Japanese names are "Pinpuku" (fortune) → "Lucky" (good fortune) → "Happy" (happiness), which give the impression of increasing luck and happiness. Can you sense this kind of relationship from the name?
[Blissey is referred to here using its name from the Spaceworld 1997 demo of Gold and Silver, with "Happy" (ハッピー) instead of "Happiness" (ハピナス).]

Baroquet

Pijako

"bavard" (English: talkative) + perroquet (English: parrot).
"Pirroquet" gives the impression of being slightly smaller than "Baroquet".

*Don't use (Pirroquet is better).

Pirroket

Taken from the expression "bavard comme une pie" (talkative like a magpie, chatty), "pie" (English: magpie) + perroquet (English: parrot).
"Pirroquet" gives the impression of being slightly smaller than "Baroquet".

*Don't use (legal check).

Pirroquet

*Don't use (legal check).

Reknotte

Griknot

"requin" (English: shark) + "quenottes" (English: name for children's teeth).

If the "shark" impression is too strong, it will be mistaken for a Water type. Please use a different word.

Dendrekin

Carmache

"dents de requin" (English: shark teeth).
"Dendrekin" sounds stronger, we would prefer using it.

Crokin

"croquer" (English: bite) + requin (English: shark).
"Dendrekin" sounds stronger, we would prefer using it.

BAFREX

Goinfrex

Bafrex.
A proposal to emphasize the gluttony of this pre-evolved form.
Bâfrer (to eat greedily) + Ronflex (Snorlax's French name).

*Don't use ("GOINFREX" better matches a Snorlax pre-evolution (weak, small, cute, etc.)).

GLOUTEX

Gloutex.
A proposal to emphasize the gluttony of this pre-evolved form.
Glouton (glutton) + Ronflex (Snorlax's French name).

*Don't use (in terms of meaning, "Se goinfrer" and "Bâfrer" (to eat greedily) are more appropriate).

RONFLI

A proposal to emphasize the cuteness of this pre-evolved form.
Ronflex (Snorlax's French name) + a cute-sounding ending.

RONFI

RONFTI

Hippopotops

Hippodocus

"hippopotame" (English: hippopotamus) + "tops" (used at the end of dinosaur names).

*Don't use (Hippodocus is better).

Scoripiti

Rapion

"scorpion" + "petit" (English: small).

*Don't use (this name sounds like it could be related to SCORPLANE (Gligar).

Drapion

"dragon" + "scorpion".
It sounds smaller and cuter than "Drascore".

Trademark OK, but can't be used because it's the same as the English name "Drapion".

Batramou

Cradopaud

"batracien" (English: batracian) + "mou" (inert, limp).
"Inert/limp" refers to the "gunk" used in the name, and does not describe the Pokémon's personality.

*Don't use (Crapimou is better).

Crapimou

crapaud" (toad) + "mou" (inert, limp).
"Inert/limp" refers to the "gunk" used in the name, and does not describe the Pokémon's personality.
"Crapimou" is reminiscent of "crapule" (English: scoundrel), and it also brings to mind the image of being "out of control."

*Don't use (legal check).

Crapobou

"crapaud" (toad) + "boue" (mud).

*Don't use (Crapocrado is better).

Crapocrado

"crapaud" (toad) + "crado" (dirty (refers to both physical and figurative dirtiness.))

*Don't use (legal check).

Batratox

Coatox

"batracien" (English: batracian) + "toxique" (English: toxic). "Batramou→Coatox, Crapimou→Batratox, Crapimou→Coatox" fit well.

*Don't use (Coatox is better).

Tentavore

Vortente

"carnivore" + "tentacule" (tentacle) & "tentation" (temptation).
This Pokémon has tentacles and sweet-smelling saliva to attract prey. The "vor" and "vore" in the name evoke the French "dévore" (English: eat up). This name suits this Pokémon because it's not necessarily "carnivorous".
Also, "carnivore" (meat-eating) does not actually describe this Pokémon's diet, but rather is intended to represent its appearance (French: "plante carnivore", English: carnivorous plant).

It's not a carnivorous animal, but rather a Pokémon based on the carnivorous plant "Dionaea muscipula" + it gives the impression of having gaps between its teeth.
Please reconsider.

Mantine

Babimanta

"Démanta" (Mantine) + adding "ine" at the end, making it cute.
The best name.

*Don't use (confusing with the English name "Mantine" (DEMANTA)).

Minimanta

"mini" (mini) + "Démanta" (Mantine).

*Don't use (legal check).

Blipti

Blizzi

"blizzard" + petit (English: small).

*Don't use (Blizzi is better).

Roivernal

Blizzaroi

"roi" (English: king) + "hivernal" (wintry).

*Don't use (Blizzaroi is better).

DEMORET

Dimoret

(Pronounced: Deh-mo-reh). A combination of "devil" (démoniaque) and "weasel" (furet). It can also indicate a connection with "Sneasel" (FARFURET).

*Don't use (DIMORET is better).
*Considering the origin and its connection to "Sneasel", the first or third option seem more appropriate.
Points of concern with both options are:
1. Are the words "devil" and "Mephistopheles" problematic from a religious perspective?
2. We felt that the image of a "devil" was too strong.
(Perhaps it evokes a stronger image of "evil" than what I, as a Japanese person, imagine?)
In the movie, it's portrayed as acting cunningly but failing, then getting scolded by its trainer and becoming dejected.
We apologize for the subtle nuance, but we believe words that are one or two ranks below the highest level of "evil" are best.

FURINA

(Pronounced: Fuu-ree-nah).
A combination of "weasel" (furet) and "fury" (furie), with a cute ending.
The contrast between "furie" and the ending expresses a cunning and dark nature.

*Don't use (taking Sneasel into account).

MEFURET

(Pronounced: Meh-fu-reh).
A compound word made up of Mephistopheles, synonymous with "devil", + "evil" (méchant) + "weasel" (furet). It can also indicate a connection with "Sneasel" (FARFURET).

*Don't use (DIMORET is better).
We felt that the image of a "devil" was too strong.
In the movie, it's portrayed as acting cunningly but failing, then getting scolded by its trainer and becoming dejected.

Massdeneu

Bouldeneu

Tangela's French name means "knot bag" [sac de nœuds], so this time we aimed for a chained impression with names like "knot ball" or "knot mass".
This describes the appearance of these two Pokémon, which resemble balls of yarn.
Shares the same ending as "Saquedeneu" (Tangela), meaning "ball of nodes" & "bag of nodes".

*Don't use (Bouldeneu is better).

Filélek

Elekable

"fil électrique" (English: electric wire) + "Elekid" & "Elektek" (Electabuzz).

*Don't use (Elekable is better).

Dracuplane

Scorvol

"Dracula" + "planer" (English: glide) & same ending as "Scorplane" (Gligar).

*Don't use (Gliscor does not have the ability to suck blood).

Dracuvol

"Dracula" + "vol" (English: fly).

Sanglimouth

Mammochon

"sanglier" (English: boar) + "mammouth" (English: mammoth).

*Don't use (Mammochon is better).

Gallade

Gallame

"élégant" (English: gallant) + "taillade" (English: gash (deep cut)).

*Don't use (we want to include the word "blade" in this name).

Frigosse

Momartik

"frigorifique" (English: refrigerating) + "gosse" (English: kid).
It sounds worse than "Momartik".

*Don't use (we don't want the image to be of a child, but of a yuki-onna).

Rotom

Motisma

English name unification.

*Don't use (the English name "Rotom" sounds very similar to "scrotum" in French).

Créatroll

Créfadet

[Same etymology entry as Uxie and Mesprit, only with "troll" in place of elfe/follet.]

*Don't use (legal check).

Finalized Names#

Oddly enough, Shaymin's name entry is the only one fully in uppercase (rendered as SHAYMIN). The etymologies and early name entries for Bonsly, Mime Jr., and Weavile are also found independently in 007004_【'05movie】仏語経緯060116.xls

Name

Explanation

Tortipouss

"tortiller" (wiggle) + "TORTI" (sounds very similar to "turtle" (TORTUE)[*]) + "pousse" (seedling).
This name sounds very cute.

Boskara

Spelling changes are fine as long as they don't change the meaning.
[In reference to its original name, "Boscara", being rejected by legal.]

Simiabraz

"simiesque" (simian) + "brasier".
Sounds powerful.

Luxio

"lux" (Greek for "light"; a unit of illumination).

Charkos

"char" (tank) + the ending "kros"[sic] + charge + os [bone] (evokes "assaut" (assault) ["char d’assaut", another term for "tank"]).

Bastiodon

"bastion" + "don" (dinosaur name suffix).

Apitrini

"apidés" (apidae) + "tri" ("three" (3)) + "nid d'abeille" (honeycomb).
[The translation listed is incorrect: "nid d’abeille" is actually "bees nest", with "alvéole" being the French word for "honeycomb".]

Ceribou

"cerise" (cherry) + "bourgeon" (bud).
Adding "bou" to the end is reminiscent of "bout de choux," a cute expression meaning "small child".

Tritosor

"tritonia" (a type of sea slug) + "sor" ("dinosaur").

Baudrive

"baudruche" (a small, inflatable balloon made of rubber, also used to refer to a wimp) (http://images.google.fr/images?hl=fr&q=baudruche) + "dériver" (English: drift)
When we refer to a person as a "baudruche", we mean someone who lacks self-confidence, lacks strong will, and is easily influenced by others. This probably comes from the image of a balloon that loses air and flies away. This Pokémon is small and fragile, so the name fits it perfectly, would it be okay?

Grodrive

"gros" (big) + "dériver" (drift).
The name "Baudrive" (Driftloon) suits it very well. It's like a big "Baudrive".

Lockpin

"cocker" (cocker spaniel, a dog characterized by its long ears) + "lapin" (rabbit).
Not directly associated with a dog.

Moufflair

"mouffette" (skunk) + "flair" (sense of smell of dogs).
The sound of "lair" also brings to mind "Leclerc" (a type of tank).

Archéomire

There is no equivalent for "copper mirror" [銅鏡].
As such, we had to create a name based on a different meaning. We chose "Archaeology" because the Pokédex description reads:
"Implements shaped like it were
discovered in ancient tombs."
(ふるい おはかから ドーミラーに
そっくりな どうぐが ほりだされたが
かんけいは わかっていない。)

"archéologie" (archeology) + "miroir" (mirror).

Archéodong

There is no equivalent for "copper mirror" [銅鏡].
As such, we had to create a name based on a different meaning. We chose "Archaeology" because the Pokédex description reads:
"One caused a news sensation when
it was dug up at a construction
site after a 2,000-year sleep."
(2000ねん いじょう ねむっていた
ドータクンが こうじげんばから
ほりだされ だいニュースに なった。)

"archéologie" (English: archeology) + "dong" (bell sound).

Manzaï

This name is a combination of "malin", which means "mischievous", and "bonsai", which is also well known in France.
"Malin" is a word that describes the innocent mischief of children, and has a cute feel to it.
It's fine because it has a similar feel to "bonsai".

Pijako

Taken from the expression "bavard comme une pie" (talkative like a magpie, chatty), "pie" (magpie) + "jacquot" (grey parrot/common nickname for parrots).

Griknot

"grignoter" (English: nibble) + "quenottes" (children's teeth/baby teeth).

Carmache

"carcharodon" (great white shark) + "mâcher" (chew). The "biting" aspect is stronger than the "shark" one.

Carchacrok

"carcharodon" & "carnassier" (English: carnivore) + "croquer" (English: bite).
Not close to "CARATROC" (Shuckle).

Rapion

It has been discovered that the French name for Skorupi is the same as the English name "Drapion" (see below), which may cause issues when trading Pokémon between different languages.

New name explanation:
Made from "scorpion".

Cradopaud

"crado" (dirty (refers to both physical and figurative dirtiness.)) + "crapaud" (toad).
Although the latter half of the name is the same as "TARPAUD" (Politoed), it's unlikely to be perceived as an evolved form of Politoed.

Coatox

"coa" (English: sound of toad) + "toxique" (English: toxic).
"Batramou→Coatox, Crapimou→Batratox, Crapimou→Coatox" fit well.

"Plante carnivore" is a very commonly used term in French, so "carnivore" can be thought of as "plante carnivore" (even without "plante" attached).

Ecayon

"écailles" (fish scales) + "néon" (neon).

Babimanta

"babiller" (babble (baby speak)) + "Démanta" (Mantine).

Dimoret

Regarding the French translation of "Weavile", the origin of the name is apparently "demon", which means it's more like a "little imp" than a "devil".
It has a more cunning and clumsy image than "DEMORET", giving it a more comical feel.
*Trademark*
It depends on how it is used in Italy, but it can generally be used.
Could you please let us know whether this name will be used in Italy?
We think Nicola has already asked this question, but we would appreciate it if you could help us with which name to use in which country/region.
[The "Nicola" in question is likely "Nicola Wright", listed under "NOA Special Thanks" in DP's credits.]

Momartik

"môme" (English: kid) + "arctique" (English: arctic).
"Môme" does not only refer to a child, but also for a woman.
For example, there is a very famous song by Léo Ferré called "Jolie Môme". Literally translated, it means "beautiful child," but the title of the song actually means "beautiful woman".
It's a nice-sounding name.

Motisma

"moteur" (motor) + "plasma".

Créhelf

"créature" (English: creature) + elfe (English: elf).
"Uxie", "Mesprit", and "Azelf" are a trio, so they are named using the three letters "UMA" ["Unidentified Mysterious Animal", cryptid] (semantic connection).
It's not necessary to stick to "UMA", but the names are set up in a way that makes it clear that the three are a set.
These three names start with the same letter (which mean living creatures), and contain similar meanings. (elf, spirit, troll).
With these names, there is no indication of any evolutionary changes, and it's clear that these three Pokémon are a set.

Créfollet

"créature" (English: creature) + "follet" (English: spirit)
"Uxie", "Mesprit", and "Azelf" are a trio, so they are named using the three letters "UMA" ["Unidentified Mysterious Animal", cryptid] (semantic connection).
It's not necessary to stick to "UMA", but the names are set up in a way that makes it clear that the three are a set.
These three names start with the same letter (which mean living creatures), and contain similar meanings. (elf, spirit, troll).
With these names, there is no indication of any evolutionary changes, and it's clear that these three Pokémon are a set.

Créfadet

We created a name similar to "Créfollet" and "Créhelf".
"créature" (creature) + "farfadet" (sprite).

Orbe Diamant

Orbe Adamant

"Diamond Orb".

Basically fine, but could we replace "Diamond" with "Adamantine" and "Pearl" with "Pearlescent "? A slight twist for these names would be best.

Orbe Perle

Orbe Perlé

"Pearl Orb".

Lettre Fleur

Lett. Pétale

"Flower Orb".

Same name as Gold and Silver's "Flower Mail". Please reconsider.

Baie Téria

Baie Fraigo

"Berry" (Baie) + invented name.

Was it too hard to use the original plant, the "strawberry guava"?

Boule Pics

Piquants

Spike Ball.

"BOULE XXX" is used for "Smoke Ball" [Boule Fumée]. We would like to avoid it being perceived as a related item, so would it be possible to change the translation of this name?

Brac. Pouv.

Poign. Pouv.

Literal translation.

"BRAC. XXX" is used for "Macho Brace" [Brac. Macho]. Can we use a different word to differentiate it?

Kit Explora.

Explorakit

Literal translation.

Don't use. We would like to avoid the shortened form "Explora.".

Canarrosoir

Kwakarrosoir

"duck" (canard) + "watering can" (arrosoir).

Psyduck is PSYKOKWAK, so please use this name for the "watering can". Don't use (not a duck).

Baie Lampou

"Berry" (Baie) + "cocklebur" [lampourde].

Baie Babiri

"Berry" (Baie) + "biriba".

Baie Zalis

"Berry" (Baie) + "physalis".

Baie Jaboca

"Berry" (Baie) + "jaboticaba".

Baie Pommo

This name is based on the French translation of the original "Syzygium Aqueum", "Pomme d'eau".

Explorakit

We would like to avoid the shortened form "Explora.". "Explorakit" is shorter and sounds better. Has the same meaning.

Kwakarrosoir

"Psykokwak" (Psyduck) + "watering can" [arrosoir].
→ "Squirtbottle" became "CARAPUCE A O", and "Wailmer Pail" became "SEAU WAILMER".
Would it be better to use "arrosoir"?
→ "CARAPUCE A O" is a bottle and "SEAU WAILMER" is a watering pail. Therefore, these terms cannot be unified. The correct word for this item is "watering can" (arrosoir).

Don de Soin

Voeu Soin

A play on "Don de soi" (self-sacrifice) and "Soin" (cure/recovery).

Please add the meaning of "wish" to this move's name.
"Doom Desire" and "Healing Wish" are paired in Japanese, but due to the difference in nuance of "ねがい", in English this pairing isn't kept.
*In French, "Doom Desire" is called "Carnareket"[*] (a compound word shortened from "Carna Requete").

Astuce Psy

Astuce Force

"Psy trick".

This move's effect is "swap your attack and defense through supernatural powers". However, please make the name more focused on the "power" part rather than focusing on the "supernatural powers".
We'd also like it to be consistent with "Power Swap".

Without "Rock", it seems like it would be hard to tell that it's a Rock-type move. Fine as long as it's clear that it's a Rock-type move.

Ondobscure

Vibrobscur

"Dark wave".

Since this move has a similar effect to "Water Pulse", is it possible to unify the "XXX Pulse" part?
*"Water Pulse = VIBRAQUA"

Rase-Mottes

Rapace

"Hedgehop" [a term used for airplanes flying low to the ground].

Any name that evokes the image of a powerful Flying-type move is fine.

Lance-Glace

Eclats Glace

"Ice-thrower".
[Another reading would be "Ice Spear".]

Rather than "a person who throws ice", we'd prefer the name to focus on the ice that is thrown.

Tête Dure

Tête de Fer

"Hard head".

It's fine as long as you can tell it's a Steel-type move, and not a Rock-type one.

Rayon Max

Rayon Chargé

"Max beam".

Doesn't have the image of a "maximum beam". Please use a name that conveys the nuance of "storing electricity".

Finalized Names#

Note that Guard Swap's etymology entry is mistakenly duplicated from Power Swap. This error was seemingly noticed however, as the former cell is highlighted in pink in the original spreadsheet.

Name

Explanation

Atterrissage

From "Landing", because in-game it looks like the bird is landing on the ground.

Ruse

"Cunning".
The term "Ruse" fits this move well, since it can circumvent Protect and Detect. It means something like "trick".

Dégommage

"Knock down".
The verb "dégommer" means to knock down (or attempt to knock down) something by throwing something at it. This perfectly fits the image of a Pokémon that throws its held item.

Rapace

"Raptor".
"Rase-Mottes" doesn't conjure up images of a powerful Flying-type move, but this name certainly does.

Ombre Portée

The painting/photograph technique is based on the reflection of shadows cast on a surface.
This technique relates to casting/projecting shadows, and the name suits how it appears on-screen: a long shadow creeping up on the enemy.

Revenant

"Ghost".
This word literally means "coming back [from the dead]", so we think it fits this move well.

Rejected Names#

Note that for some reason, "Arène Unionpolis" is listed among the rejected names despite it being finalized, on top of Hearthome City not having any rejected name proposals to begin with.

Explanation

Reason for Rejection

Météoria

Voilaroc

From "météore" (metor).

Rather than just focusing on the part where the meteorite is, would it be possible to give it a name that also includes the meaning of "veil"?

Solaria

Rivamar

From "solaire" (solar).

Please provide a location name related to the sea.

Colonnes Brisées

Colonnes Lances

"Broken columns".

Since it's a temple with pillars "like spears piercing the heavens", we felt that naming it "Broken" was rather uninteresting.

Jardin Trophées

Jardin Trophée

Literal translation.

Don't use (change to singular form).

Grotte Vérité

Caverne Vérité

Grotte Courage

Caverne Courage

Grotte Savoir

Caverne Savoir

"Knowledge lake".

Mont Hostile

Mont Abrupt

"Hostile mount".

"Hostile Mount" has a slightly different image. Please choose a name that conveys the idea of a "harsh, rugged mountain".

Zone de Combat

Secteur Combat

FIXED.

*Don't use ("Zone de Combat" was used as the translation of "Battle Frontier" in Emerald).

Ile de Combat

"Ile de Combat" means "Battle Island". According to NCL, "Battle Zone" refers to the entire island.

"Battle Zone" does not refer to the entire island, but rather to a specific area on said island.
(The idea is that the island has a separate name.)
Please use a name that reflects this intention.

SME

GTS

"Station Mondiale d'Echange".

We believe that "GTS" is currently being considered as the unified international name. Could you please confirm this?

Hyper Météoria

C. Com. Voilaroc

"Veilstone hypermarket".

Depends on the name of Veilstone City. We are currently using "CENT. XXX" and "CENTRE COMMERCIAL XXX" for "Department Store", so please be consistent.

It was decided to change Sunyshore City's name.

["Pic" actually translates to "peak", as in a mountain peak.]

Les Eoliennes

Wind turbine.
Fine as long as it's clear that it's a wind power generation facility

Forêt Vestigion

"Crowned mount".

QG Galaxie

Literal translation.
→Until now, "PLANQUE XXX" has been used for "Team XXX Hideout", so would it be possible to unify it?
→The English name has been changed from "Hideout" to "HQ," so the French name has also been changed accordingly. Since the building is not hidden, "Planque" (Hideout) (Team XXX Hideout) does not fit in this case.
[Repaire is used for "Hideout" except in the Gen 3 games, where "Planque" is used instead.]

Pokémontre S.A.

Literal translation.
→Is "S.A." the same (abbreviation) as "sarl" used for "Silph Co."?
Please tell use the origin of "Pokémontre" (Poketch).
→At the Colosseum it was "SYLPHE SARL" (société à responsabilité limitée), but here it is "S.A." (société anonyme). "S.A." and "SARL" are two types of commercial partnerships.
→"Pokémontre" (Poketch) comes from "Pokémon" + "montre", which is the same as in English, "Pokémon" + "watch".

Phare Panorama

"Panorama Lighthouse".
The English word "panorama" is a synonym for "vista", so we think "Phare Panorama" is actually a literal translation. What do you think?
