This page details development materials of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.
Ludosity Discord Images#
A lot of early screenshots and material from the game's production have been posted on Ludosity's Discord server by the developers. These images depict a game that looks very different from the final version, as most of the assets seen here were made by Ludosity by themselves before Fair Play Labs stepped in to assist with development. Some of these models resemble the visual style of Ludosity's previous platform fighting game, Slap City.
Characters#
SpongeBob and Oblina#
These renders depict very early models of SpongeBob and Oblina.
Leonardo#
Early model test of Leonardo.
Ren and Stimpy#
An screenshot from an slightly later point development shows Ren and Stimpy with a completely different design compared to the final game, with different expressions and textures.
Alternate Colors and Early Jellyfish Fields#
Early on in the game's life, there were going to be actual alternate palette swaps for every character on the roster. These images from an early point in development show alternate colors for SpongeBob based on Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs. These and possibly more ended up being scrapped early on, as Nickelodeon preferred the alternate costumes to be based on actual references from their shows.
In addition, these images provide an early look at what Jellyfish Fields used to look like, featuring a lot more grass, and the sign being on stage rather than being used in the far background.
Stages#
Rooftop Rumble#
Rooftop Rumble looked very different in this stage in development, employing an entirely different aesthetic. Gary is also placed here in this screenshot, but the reason why he is there is unknown.
The Dump#
An image of The Dump that is very much a work in progress. SpongeBob can be seen fighting on it with his scrapped alternate color based on Patrick.
Hardcore Chores#
An image of what would become Hardcore Chores in the Rocko DLC. This version was made as a test, and is much smaller than the stage that would end up getting added.
Early Animations#
Some characters on the roster went through a lot of animation passes before getting to where they now are today. Animators who worked on the game have since shared those early animations on their Artstation accounts, such as animator Jessica Lindblom.
Patrick#
Originally for Patrick's strong down air attack, Cone Crash, he was just supposed to slam onto the ground with a squash animation. This was changed to him flipping upside down like in the SpongeBob Squarepants episode its referencing, The Fry Cook Games.
Ren and Stimpy#
Along with having less polished models, Ren and Stimpy feature a slightly different idle animation, most notably in how Ren reacts to Stimpy picking his nose.
