Jazz Jackrabbit 2

This page details development materials of Jazz Jackrabbit 2.

Music#

Alexander Brandon#

This needs some investigation. Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page. Specifically: For the modules that made it into the final game, investigate the Lori Central versions for differences.

Fansite Lori Central hosts most of the game's soundtrack in their native formats, directly from Alexander Brandon. Some of the included modules did not make it into the final game.

Jaz27.s3m#

An early version of the menu theme with various instrumental differences.

Jaz30.s3m#

Quite literal Jazz.

Menu2.s3m#

An earlier menu theme. The beginning hits were reworked for the final game's menu theme, but this is mostly just a repeated drum loop with a synth melody in the middle.

Basehead#

On September 13th, 2004, two unimplemented modules composed by Daniel "Basehead" Gardopée of Straylight Productions for the game surfaced onto the Modland archive. They have the following signature:

(c) 1998

composed by basehead
straylight productions

exclusively for:

'jazz jackrabbit 2'

[by/for] epic megagames

According to level designer John "Jeh" MacLellan, the levels these tracks were made for got scrapped before any tilesets could be drawn for them.¹

jazz 2 - atlantis.it#

A calm and ambient track with some funkier touches along the way, sounding very much like something related to its namesake.

jazz 2 - dreamland.it#

A deep, spacey, and ethereal track that certainly lives up to its name.

Lori Animation Files#

Lori Central hosts raw .FLC animation files for Lori from Dean Dodrill. Two files for these are provided: smallanim.zip contains them all in one file, as prepared for the final game, whereas biganim.zip contains them as multiple files, in the size they were originally drawn in before being downscaled. The latter's file dates range from June 24th, 1998 to January 24th, 1999.
