Chinese Missions#

The maps provided include early versions of the Chinese missions. All of these maps have "_INTRO" in their filenames, suggesting that each mission was going to have their intros separate from the main mission. This would

Mission One#

First chinese mission doesn't have something much interesting other than a few buildings around the map being diffirent than the final game. Additionally, time of the map is set to afternoon, instead of morning like in the final version.

Mission Two#

The second Chinese missions looks significantly different from its final version counterpart, and way bigger. In addition to destroying the convention center and its attached parking lots, there was a secondary objective. In which you had to prevent the GLA from launching terrorist attacks on various famous buildings in Hong Kong, sky scrappers and the mega hotel in the middle of the map. However because it's an incomplete map, you don't actually lose for failing to protect the buildings. However, there is a winning condition set for the map (destroying not just the convention center and its parking lots but all GLA buildings.)

Some of the obvious differences include:

  • The time of the map is set to "Afternoon", whereas it's "Evening" in the final game.
  • There are two Supply Docks in the south west of the map, in an area that looks like a shipping dock, with some shipping containers and such. The entire area was removed from the final game map and one supply dock was moved.
  • The field on which you're prompted to build your base is located south of the bridge. There's also an apartment complex on the field.
  • The city is much larger than how it is in the final game with a different layout.
  • There's no train delivering reinforcements, in fact there are no railways and the train station is placed somewhere else.
  • You're not allowed to capture the hospital to the north. This is because the player is set to be allied with the civilian faction.
  • You're allowed to build everything except for a Warfactory. However the Chain Guns upgrade is disabled.
  • In place of the final game's Toxic Base, there's a "surplus base" consisting of a Warfactory, a Battlemaster, a Dragon Tank, a Dozer and a Bunker. The base's three entrances are blocked by Burning Barricades which you have to destroy in order to get in. As soon as you gain ownership of the base, what's left of the Burning Barricades are removed.
  • The Toxic Base is located in top right corner of the map. This section of the map was removed from the final game and the toxic base was moved.
  • Two of the three bridges that connect the Convention Center island to the main one are objects (and thus don't appear in the map preview). In the final game they were changed as to be part of the map's geometry.

Mission Four#

This mission is basically unplayable, because you're not given any units. And can't train any.

  • First of all, there is no player base. There are just two hangars and an oil depot.
  • There's no dialogue in the cutscene.
  • The map terrain is much more mountainous and ragged. The roads are all different too and there are some non-snow trees.
  • The first stinger site (guarded by three Rebels instead of two) encountered is located on a ledge. With a small lake next to it. This would've made destroying the stinger site really difficult considering how the distance to it is essentially doubled.
  • There are two bridges in the map (Object ID is EuropeanBridge). The second bridge connects the island with Toxin Tractor to the area with the Wafactory. For the final game, this bridge was removed, and island was connected through land. The bridge that remained was changed to a wider, snow version.
  • The Burning Barricades that block the city are placed in front of man-made hills of snow and rock, giving the impression that the GLA had dug up the place. Which is also why the roads continue underneath them.
  • Instead of a Supply Dock, there's a Supply Warehouse.
