Shadows of Evil#

Shadows of Evil is the first map in Black Ops 3, and is referred to many different names throughout these documents, some highlights include "ZoD (???)", "Dead City"

SOE_ALPHA_NOTES - 5/22/15
This document is well, notes from the Alpha tests of Shadows of Evil, some highlights include:

- Some of the Beast Mode Basin's being moved out of the middle of walkways.

- The Mystery Box down by the Femme Fatal's Ritual was originally directly under the Tram Station.
BO3-MysteryBoxMove.png

- The Mystery Box down by the Center of the Map was moved slightly over so it didn't go inside of the Tram when it was at the Station.

- Traps were originally planned to move around, but cut because it made things too confusing.

We are removing the mechanic that traps move around so players will have more opportunity to use them. (Knock on effect for visuals see art note.)

ART: Since we are removing the moving functionality, we need a way for the players to know when a trap is available and when it is not.
Proposed solution: Make the symbols on the stone glow when the trap is available and make them not glow when the trap is unavailable.

- Originally, during the Easter Egg, the Margwa God was directly above the city, causing him to be obstructed by the tram tracks.

ART/SCRIPT: currently the Apothicon god is directly over the city making it difficult to see.

Proposed solution: offset him from the center of the map so he is over the footlight district. Make best view from the junction.

VO_Script/VO Archive/ZODV1 - 2015

This is the first draft for the entire script, and while it is largely the same, there are a few differences here and there, such as:

The Shadow Man monologue after Nero kills his wife was originally at the beginning.
Floyd originally saying "Put money on it." after he says "but his career ends tonight."
Nero originally had another sentence before talking about his wife's debt "I am well aware of the fact that my family estate is not a 'wishing well of infinite depth!'"
Before saying the line about his life insurance policy, he originally said "Forgive me being indelicate.."
Sins in "Your sins serve only as an invitation" was originally "flirtations with evil"
Instead of saying "an invitation to an evil beyond your imagination.", the Shadow Man originally said "an invitation to me."
"Only through me, the Shadow Man, will you find your redemption" was originally "I will offer you redemption... but you will thank me, for damnation."

VO_Script/Loading_Movie/ZODIntroV5 - 2015

This is just a built-up, more in-depth intro script, and has the differences seen above.

ZOD_Kickoff v2 - 2014

This is a BIG pitch bible for Shadows of Evil.

This has details such as:

The Swords were originally going to put you in Third Person
Zombies were originally not going to spawn in the Pack-A-Punch room

All Maps#

Pack-A-Punch#

The idea of adding the Pack-A-Punch machine to the World at War maps were proposed but was never implemented.

  • Nacht der Untoten had 3 different concepts for its location and unlock method:
  1. In a room behind a false wall that would be unlocked through unknown means
  2. On an inaccessible part of the top floor and would need to be pushed down to the bottom floor
  3. Under the stairs connecting the Mystery Box room and the upstairs, with no special unlock method
  • Verruckt would have had it located in the dead-end room where the BAR wallbuy is located in World at War, though whether or not it would have specific steps to access is not known.
  • Shi No Numa would've shared the same PaP mechanic as Call of The Dead; the machine would appear randomly in the swamp water and move to different locations at an unspecified interval.

Shi No Numa would eventually get a Pack-A-Punch machine in Vanguard, although it's simply located in a new area without any unique access mechanics.
