August 1994 Data

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

This is a sub-page of Development:Blood.

To do:
Add the rest of the graphics and see if there are any differences (besides the obvious art change) of the maps from their November 1994 counterparts.

Some loose data (namely two maps and some tiles) from the development of Blood dated to August 1994 exists. This was mistakenly not included with the initial drop of prototype content in Patch 3.0 of Blood: Refreshed Supply but would be later added in Patch 3.1.

Maps#

There are two maps present in the August 1994 data; L1.MAP and M1.MAP. Both of these maps would later appear in the November 1994 prototype and are present in the (1994-08-07) folder of level_archive.zip.

The official release uses the November build with versions converted to the prototype's map format in order to make these levels playable.

L1#

Watch on YouTubeDated August 6th, 1994.

Present in the release as OLD_L1.MAP.

M1#

Watch on YouTubeDated August 7th, 1994.

Present in the release as OLD_M1.MAP.

Graphics#

The tiles are present in the release as OLD_TIL_.ART. Several graphics would have their tile numbers shuffled around by the November 1994 build, making it somewhat unclear for some of these if they had been scrapped with new graphics or received new designs.

Unchanged Graphics#

These graphics are unchanged from here to the November 1994 build. For any tiles of note, please see the November 1994 build's article.

Changed Sprites#

Note: in the "Tile Number" section, the first one is for the August data, and the second one is for the November build. Any graphics with "N/A" denote graphics that were removed in the final game.

The August 1994 design resembles the final, but it was made smaller in the November 1994 build, before it
got reverted by the December 1995 build. This is the only item present here that would end up in the final release.

Removed Sprites#

Graphics that were removed from the game by November 1994. It is possible some of these may have become other sprites, but it is hard to say for certain.

Skybox Texture#

BloodAug94-0512.png

Tile 512 is a skybox texture that was removed from the game. It depicts various mountains with a cloudy night sky. Considering its similarity and placement between the Apogee logo and the Pitchfork's first sprite, this appears to be an early version of the mountain skybox seen in later prototypes.

Large Grid#

BloodAug94-0806.png

Tile 806 is a large green and red grid. It is unclear what its intended purpose was. It was completely removed from the game by the November 1994 prototype.
