This page details bugs of Gearheads (Windows).
Wrong music on demonstration matches#
It seems that the only times the music track is properly initialised are when you start a match, or enable music during a match (if you disable and re-enable music on the main menu, the last track played will play there, which clearly is not supposed to happen). The track seems to not be cleared/reset at any other time. The result is that when the game plays a demonstration match, the track that was supposed to play the previous time there was supposed to be music will play instead of the correct one, until you manually disable and re-enable music. open.mid is supposed to play on the 'Welcome' level (LEVELX711, the opening sequence, but it doesn't (there's no music, but there is music when you jump to this scene, but it is affected by this bug); instead, it will play on the first demonstration match, which plays after several moments on the main menu with no user input. Come the next demonstration match, the track that was supposed to play during the first one will play, and so on.
Music dies when opening and closing a window during a game#
If you open a window (such as the About window) during a game, the music pauses (which is to be expected), but does not resume when the window is closed. To regain music, you are therefore forced to manually disable and re-enable it via the Options menu.
Interestingly, this bug does not occur on Windows 95 or 98 (or ME?): their architectural improvements over Windows 3.1 allow the music to automatically resume playing when the window is closed. It occurs on Windows 3.1, and on Windows XP, because it emulates the Windows 3.1 environment.
