World Rally is a spiritual successor to a racing game that was named after legendary rally driver Carlos Sainz that itself is an isometric rally game involving (different generations of) a Toyota Celica GT-Four. It was cloned by other developers and was even ripped off.
Unused Graphics#
Located next to the Gaelco logo, this early Presents graphic was originally going to be used in the opening. This was replaced by the Arial font in the final.
Prototype Leftovers#
These graphics are leftovers from the November 22, 1992 prototype of the game, which was added to MAME on May 28, 2025.
This logo for ZXP, originally seen in the prototype's title sequence, was left unused. Its palette data was also left intact.
The prototype features Carlos Sainz' likeness, and his signature appeared below the notes for each of the courses during the attract mode sequence.
