Version Differences

This is a sub-page of Wario's Woods (SNES).

To do:

  • There's much more to cover. Compare each week's Futatabi version, as well as Event Ver. 1 and Event Ver. 2.
  • Clean-up of article is needed.

This game was released exclusively for the Satellaview in Japan, and it was broadcast in multiple forms with a number of surprising major changes. The Event and Bakushow versions feature a Japanese comedy duo, who've been added to the title screen and throughout the game.

A later Futatabi version drops the celebrity tie-in, bringing the game closer to its original form.

Title Screen#

The Bakushow & Event versions feature the famous Japanese comedy duo Bakushow Mondai (爆笑問題) who had a radio program during the first Satellaview broadcast period (between April 23rd 1995 and March 30th 1996). The Futatabi versions opts for a different, yet very familiar image; namely the artwork featured on the game's packaging (this box art was used for every NES and SNES cartridge release, including the Famicom version).

Also, the two variants of Event Ver.2 and the rerun variants of Event Ver.1 allows you to save your save data in a memory pack location.

How-to-play Message & Audio Settings#

Exclusively in the Satellaview versions, there are an introduction message which explains how to play the game. However, it's different between the builds.

ワリオの森 再び (Event & Regular Versions)

Yep, the Build 1 starts directly to the tutorial trial, with the How-to-Play message at the right side of the screen. Also, in the Build 1 and the both Futatabi Versions you can't edit BGM/SFX/Radio audios. For Futatabi, we can understand since when it was aired (during Fall 1997) the radio programs has completely disappeared since nearly 4 months, but for the Build 1 it's kinda need some context : When it was aired during April 1995, the early versions of original games had some stuff temporarily unavailable. For ワリオの森 (Build 1) you can't access the Event Mode (we'll talk about this later in the Main Menu section) and you can't edit BGM/SFX/Radio audios. That's also like that for the early V02 build of UNDAKE30 Same Game Daisakusen (you can't turn off BGM and the symbols number is limited to 80) and the first broadcasts of Tamori no Picross (you can't access to tutorial stuff, postcard screen and turn off BGM before the title screen) & Yuki no Jigsaw Kids (you can't access to worldwide puzzles and the 1P vs 2P mode).

ワリオの森 (Builds 1 & 2) & ワリオの森5/18版

イベントワリオ5/18版2 and later versions

The monsters have been slightly rearranged to make the tutorial easier. Also, blue sky monsters have been replaced by green ones and a white monster has been removed for an unknown reason (poor guys :/ ).

Sound Test#

If you clear the tutorial trial in every versions (except early Bakushow ones), you can access to a Sound Test.

イベントワリオ5/18版2 ワリオの森 再び (Event & Regular Versions)

ワリオイベント2 7/20版 ワリオの森1(再) & ワリオイベント2再放送

For unknown reasons the Event Ver.2 & Event Ver.1 Rerun one is kinda more complete and doesn't have transparent effect with the background.

ワリオの森 再び (Event & Regular Versions)

Each Satellaview version features different game modes. The Round Game and Time Race icons were redrawn to give Toad a mouth, and they remembered to update the Option icon to match the Super Famicom's controller. The logo on the controller also has slight differences between the European and Japanese releases.

To do:
Describe the changed modes in further detail.

VS COM Mode#

The VS COM mode in Futatabi conspicuously omits the cutscene dialogue (Toad and his foes just stare at each other, blinking).

The mode's results screen also removes the name labels. Oddly, this means the VS COM opponents (besides Wario) went unnamed in Japan.

The event versions feature the celebrity tie-in, of course. Despite the rest of Futatabi hewing closer to the international release, Birdo is still absent, replaced by the Satellaview's female avatar.
