Virtual Lab

Virtual Lab is generally considered to be the worst Virtual Boy game, or at least the worst among those that were licensed and released (though you'd be forgiven for thinking it wasn't licensed given that the box and cart label misspell Nintendo's name twice, as "Nintenndo" and "Ninntenndo" respectively).

The underlying code isn't very good either. As one user analyzing the code on Planet Virtual Boy put it, "Virtual Lab code is very hard to follow... the functions are long, full of redundant instructions, and everything seems to be as complicated as possible; apparently the code was compiled without any optimizations." That said, it's hard to blame the game's sole developer, Megumi Ayase (credited in-game as "Nacoty"), for this since the entire development cycle lasted roughly a month with the development hardware arriving a mere eight days before the deadline and setup taking a day, which means the game was completed in just one week.

The game is also crazy rare and expensive, with copies selling for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It's really not worth it unless you're a die-hard collector.

Unused

An alternate sprite for the pickaxe fairy, with different colors and some additional shading. Most of the first sprite was overwritten.

Oddities#

Megu's idle sprite has a smaller set of breasts hidden beneath her normal ones, complete with cleavage.

One of Megu's poses has this detail as well. The other one doesn't, but still has some details that can't be seen normally.

Additionally, both of Megu's poses have a number of missing and incorrect tiles in-game, with one of them inexplicably having part of a Myuu attached to it.
