Vandyke

Vandyke is pratically when UPL meets Conan the Barbarian. This can be sound cool or odd, depending on your taste.

Unused Music#

Curiously, there're five unused tracks inside the game. What's interesting is that four of them are actually from Bio-Ship Paladin, but with a slightly different arrangement.

03

Titled "RUINS". This is the track that plays in the first and seventh levels of Bio-Ship Paladin.

04

Titled "FIELD". This is the track that plays in the second, fourth and ninth (final) levels of Bio-Ship Paladin.

05

Titled "MAZE". This is the track that plays in the third and sixth levels of Bio-Ship Paladin.

09

This is the track that plays during the ending sequence of Bio-Ship Paladin.

Based on this, it is possible that the developers initially intended to reuse Bio-Ship Paladin's soundtrack for the game, but later decided to compose original music instead. However, only one track from Bio-Ship Paladin was used: "PROBLEM" (which plays in the fifth and eighth levels of the original game and in the fourth and seventh levels of this game) and was given a completely new arrangement, unlike the unused themes mentioned above.

Note that the game's composer is Yoshio Nagashima (the same guy behind Bio-Ship Paladin and Koutetsu Yousai Strahl soundtrack), so the situation here makes some sense.

Unlike the other tracks, this unused track is original and doesn't come from Bio-Ship Paladin.

Version Differences#

Two versions of the game exist: one directly published by UPL (Version A, vandyke in MAME), and another one published by Jaleco (Version B, vandykejal in MAME).

Version A

Version B

Version B changes UPL logo with Jaleco's and adds their copyright string used in their other games (mostly the ones from their Mega System 1 hardware).
