Valdis Story is an indie metroidvania in which a goddess finds out why raising one daughter as evil and the other as good is not such a sound idea.

Revisional Differences#

Version 1.0.0.22 (Jan 15th 2015)#

  • Adds the enemy Demon Widow.
  • Adds bosses Manawar and True Anemone.

Version 1.0.0.23 (May 4th)#

  • Adds playable characters Vladyn and Gilda.
  • Adds bosses Abbigail, Lozzo, Ragano, and Leilodin.
  • Expands the Hallow and Mana Crystal Mine areas.
  • Adds the Tainted Laboratory and Halls of the Fallen areas.

Version 1.0.0.25 (Aug 11th)#

  • Adds the arena.
  • Replaces Vladyn's Ruinous Edge weapon with the Doombringer.

Unused Code#

All NPCs have a full set of combat parameters (such as resistance to the various elements) that are initialized. However, these are never used, as NPCs can neither attack nor be attacked. In addition, the various scripts for Vladyn's Ruinous Edge are still in the game.

Developer Text#

The game is made in GameMaker: Studio, and its resources can be viewed with a variety of tools that read its data.win file. A number of resources have names not found in the game:

  • "Archon", the electric variant of Templars that appears in the Engineer's Palace
  • "Chaos Slam" and "Divine Slam", two attacks that go unnamed in-game
  • "Dark Link", the symbol that appears above Risen and connects them to their Warlock
  • "Evil", for possessed Dhistahn
  • "Gernot Gun", one of Gernot's attacks where he clearly uses his lance (he doesn't have a gun anyway)
  • "Itahn", Tagu's sister
  • "Kaoken", an elemental aura apparently named after Dragon Ball Z
  • "Shin Azudor", for Soul Rage Azudor
  • "Siren Queen", the unique fire-element Siren that appears in the Frozen Crypts
  • "Toxic mech", the device that creates poison mist in the laboratory and Ragano's boss fight
  • "Venus", the plant traps in the Abandoned Garden (despite the name, they look nothing like venus flytraps)

In addition, the order of animations in the data file suggests that Vladyn was implemented before Reina, despite the fact that Reina is playable in the base game and Vladyn only became playable in a later update.
