Undercover Cops (SNES)

Undercover Cops: Irem's funky 16-bit ode to police brutality. An American version of this game was planned, but was cancelled... until 2021, where Irem and Retro-Bit teamed up and released an official localization in the US.

Regional Differences#

The Japanese version was released in 1995. According to the Electronic Gaming Monthly #050, a North American release planned but ultimately cancelled for unknown reasons. For 24 years, there was no way to play the game in English (if not playing the arcade original), until a group of romhackers called RPGONE released an English patch in 2019. However, in 2021, Retro-Bit teamed up with Irem and finally released the game in the US with a brand-new official English translation.

The Japanese version displays the Varie's logo on boot. The US version goes straight to the game's intro sequence since Retro-Bit is now the publisher and no longer Varie.
