Trojka (Mac OS Classic)

Trojka is a falling-block match-three puzzle that only accepts horizontal and diagonal matches.

The game rewards progress with periodic affirming messages it calls "cookies" - "You're doing great", "You're really good at this", etc.

If you use a tool like ResEdit to examine "STR# resource 5000", you can see them all, followed by the line:

Do you play so badly that you have to read the cookies this way?

Balloon Help Mode#

The author went all-out implementing help balloons for every element of the program, from its Finder icon...

...to the decorative pillars on either side of the playfield...

This is an ancient pillar. It once belonged to Caesar's Palace (in Roma, not in Vegas), but I found it in the basement of the royal palace in Amsterdam, and decided to take it with me, to use in Trojka.

...to the Quit button in the dialog you get after hacking open the game's resource fork and messing with its vital assets.

I guess you've been playing with ResEdit or something. There's nothing you can do but quit.

Prerequisites#

I'm sorry, but Trojka needs the font "Geneva", which is not available on this system.

I'm sorry, but your screen is too small. To run Trojka, you need at least a 9-inch screen.

It would be very difficult to trigger these messages, since no classic-era Macs shipped without Geneva as a core system font and at least a 9-inch 512×342 screen (which Trojka does support).
