Topper the Copper

Topper the Copper is a rather bland platformer with a cop top hat protagonist and Benny Hill music being played at all times.

...wait a minute, doesn't this gameplay look familiar?

Thing on a Spring Sprites#

The following is an excerpt from a review for the game taken from Issue 8 of Zzap!:

"When I first played this I had a certain feeling of deja vu. It wasn't until a while later that someone said that the game reminded him ofThing on a String. When it clicked,Topper the Copper‍ 's game structure is very similar toThing‍ 's and the Topper character also moves like thing."
(Julian Rignall)

In fact, inspecting the graphics loaded in memory reveal two sprites for the titular protagonist from Thing on a String taken directly from that game; they could have been placeholder sprites for Topper that ended up not being removed. Regardless, their presence shows the game appears to have been "inspired" by Thing in more ways than one...
