The Adventures of Kid Kleets

The Adventures of Kid Kleets, known in every other region and on every other platform as Soccer Kid, is a platforming game with a unique twist: the plot and characters are a metaphor for the development of the atomic bomb.

Just kidding, it's about soccer.

Regional Differences#

To do:
There are a LOT more than this.

Title Screen#

Japan

US

Europe

Left to right: generic anime kid, humble Kid Kleets, and cereal spokeskid extraordinaire, Soccer Kid (curiously not Football Kid). The Japanese title screen credits character illustrations to Koshita Tetsuhiro, who also wrote and illustrated the dodgeball manga Dodge Danpei. The in-game character artwork is based on the Kid Kleets character in all versions.

The US and European versions moved the difficulty selection (and added a language selection) to a separate options screen, and added a password function.

Intro#

US/Europe

The scene of the protagonist violently bursting out of his country shack was altered to match the title screen. If you look closely, you'll notice that Kid Kleets/Soccer Kid still has a stray motion line on his left arm from the original Japanese scene. The window inside the house was also recolored to match the sky.

General Differences#

  • The HUD is displayed on the top of the screen in the US and EU versions. In the Japanese version, it is shown on the bottom, although the item counter in the Cards Bonus stages remains in place.
  • The Japanese version does not display passwords as per their omission.
  • Boss HP is not displayed in the Japanese version.
