Character Monitor#

Place this cheat in MAME's sbasebal.xml cheat file to change the standard test mode into a character monitor:

  <cheat desc="Character Debugger">
    <script state="run">
      <action>maincpu.mw@00EBE=052A</action>
      <action>maincpu.mw@00EC8=0520</action>
    </script>
    <script state="off">
      <action>maincpu.mw@00EBE=F89A</action>
      <action>maincpu.mw@00EC8=F890</action>
    </script>
  </cheat>

Interestingly, the Sega logo appears inside the character monitor, which makes sense given that Sega published the previous two games in the series in the US. This may suggest that Alpha originally intended for Sega to publish the game in the US once again. However, the publishing rights ultimately went to SNK, likely due to their strong and highly collaborative relationship with Alpha.

There's also Romstar's logo. Perhaps Alpha also wanted Romstar to publish the game in the US?
