Star Voyager

Star Voyager is a boring space flight simulator. Not to be confused with Star Trek: Voyager which, depending on who you ask, is only sometimes boring.

Hidden Developer Win Condition#

The game is programmed to set the win condition to true if certain steps are taken.¹² To trigger it, do the following:

1. Power-on the game.
2. Soft-reset the console five times in a row. Note: This can be achieved by holding down Start on Controller 1 during the boot process.
3. On the final reset, start the game while holding Select on Controller 2 until the cockpit view is shown.
4. Wait for the victory message (it might take a few seconds or so), then dock with the space station to see the ending credits.

This works in both versions. Because the original Famicom does not provide the Start and Select buttons on the hard-wired second controller, an expansion port controller is required to provide said inputs. It's likely that the developers at ASCII originally used the daisy-chaining functionality of their own ASCII Stick II Turbo joystick to accomplish this task.

Finding the Star Bomb#

When the player warps to the Asteroid Belt and presses A or B on Controller 2, the player's compass is programmed to snap-align to the hidden Star Bomb sector. ⁴

The fancier-looking title screen of the Japanese version was replaced with a much more boring one in the US version.

Early Name?#

The game's staff list header reads "3-D UGA UGA STAFF", suggesting that the game was called "3-D Uga Uga" at one point.
