Spider Man (NES, Nice Code)

Spider Man is a game made by people who didn't care about copyright law.

Developer Credits#

As with many Nice Code games, pressing Up, Down, Left, Right, holding A + B (pressing A before B) and pressing Right on the title screen will briefly display a credits screen. Nature Color Game is one of several aliases used by Nice Code, and PJ most likely refers to the Power Joy series of Famiclones which many Nice Code games have been released on.

Revisional Differences#

Masked Man#

An alternate version of this game exists which replaces the title screen. However, the only change made beyond the title screen is the spider motif being removed from the HUD. The player sprite is unchanged and clearly still based on Spider-Man.

Strangely, the credits screen is present in this version but the button code used to access it was changed. Pressing Up, Down, Up, Left, Right, Left, B on the title screen will display the credits screen. This screen is mostly intact, but the line graphic as well as the letters B, F and K are missing. The graphics still exist in the ROM, but this screen wasn't updated to account for the new graphic tile locations.

Cowpoke#

Another version was made which replaces the graphics more thoroughly, now featuring a cowboy instead of Spider-Man. The music was also changed, and neither code used to access the credits screen works in this version.

Rocketman#

Yet another version was produced, bearing no relation to the Elton John song of the same name. It appears to have been made for Waixing, given the presence of the copyright information commonly present on their games. This version changes the music again, to a different song from any of the other versions.

The credits screen can be accessed in this version, using the same button code as Masked Man. The color palette was changed, as well as the names credited for art design and programming.
