Konami's Ping-Pong Leftovers#

This needs some investigation.

Specifically: Does programming for the missing title screen effects still exist?

There is ample evidence that this port was salvaged from a cancelled attempt to release the game on cartridge.

  • Beyond mere cosmetic changes, the port is straight up 1:1 with the MSX release of the game (which, like the arcade counterpart, had been released two years beforehand).
    • The gameplay is also particularly sorted into "A" and "B" modes, which would be dropped around this time.
  • The sprite bank still has the graphics for the spinning disk used in the original game's title screen, along with the respective palettes.
  • Lastly, the program file in the disk's table of contents has the name of "RC805P_0.PRG". RC805 happens to be one of three codes missing from the first ten serial numbers of Konami's Famicom lineup, alongside RC803 and RC808.
