Super Beginner Course#
Download Scud Race (export) Super Beginner Save File File: Scud_Race_regular_Super_Beginner.rar (5.09 MB) (info) |
Entering the course select address to 28D4F86 and setting the course value to 4 (only works on the export version of the game), will load the nearly-finished Super Beginner Course. This was later playable in the Japan-only update called Scud Race Plus (although changing to USA will appear as Sega Super GT Plus). The type of start was originally just a standing start because the value for this course was located next to Expert Course's value. The light-hearted music (named "Merry Maze" on the OST) from Scud Race Plus is present but named 'extra' in the sound test, implying that this course was originally going to be a bonus course. This course takes place inside a house, with the vehicles being the size of a toy car. A cat can be seen chasing a mouse around the entire house. Unlike regular courses, the rival cars consists of toy vehicles, such as a rocket car featuring a crude looking driver, a tank that has a World War II soldier's head stuck on the top, and a bus featuring pictures of AM2 employees inside the windows. The bowling was not implemented yet, and as such, has no collision. There are no Race Start screens for this course, furthermore, the course icon is that of Beginner Day. The associated icons and start screen for the course do exist in the files, but were not implemented until the Plus update.
The rocket car and the tank's special abilities were also not implemented until Scud Race Plus, possibly due to the time constraints. The game will load the head model at a distance, but if approached, the heads will disappear due to the LOD issues. Trying to load Super Beginner Course in attract mode will cause the game to hang on a blank screen, playing only the attract music.
All of the sounds related to this course were unused and despite being called "Extra" in the MPEG Sound Test, there is an announcer for this course:

Unused Graphics#
A fair few graphics never seen in-game can be found by searching through the Debug Menu's Scroll Test.
Alternate Trademark Years#
Alternate trademark years for the Attract Mode. Aside from the "1996" graphic used in-game, a "1996, 1997" version is present that would later be used in the Plus update, as well as a "1997" version that was never used. Given the game's very late release in December 1996, these graphics may have been prepared in case the game required a delay.
Early Title Screens#
Some early versions of the game's title screen containing early names such as Supercar Scud Race and Virtuafull Speed. Supercar Scud Race was a beta title prior to the game's launch and was seen in an early flyer.
Early Name Entry Screens#

Some early versions of the name entry screen. Also present are specific graphics associated with these screens such as translated text and rank letters for the second early graphic. Judging by the second early graphic above, the game was originally going to rank the player based on their driving skills before it was scrapped. The announcer quote, "your driving technique was an art" (which was later used when you race the entire track in reverse) might be a leftover from those screen.
Super Beginner Leftovers#
Aside from the track itself existing in the base game, some graphics associated with it can also be found in the files.
A nameplate for the Attract Mode ranking screen. Notably still lists the course under its early "Extra" moniker, one of a handful of assets to do so aside from the song "Merry Maze" being listed in its moniker in the Sound Test (renamed in proper final name in the Plus update).
A separate nameplate listing the track's finalized designation. This may have been intended for the Name Entry screen, which lists the track as simply "Beginner" even in the Plus update.
Listings for the track in Japanese and English using the track select font. This may have been intended to indicate the track in play for Multiplayer races.
The icons intended for the track on the select screen, in both Japanese and English. Altered versions of these graphics would be used in the Plus update with different gradients on the name.
The track's select screen image background. Would be later used for the track's completed implementation in the Plus update.
Ranking icons for the tracks's bonus cars. The Bus, Rocket Car, Cat and Tank icons were naturally used for the respective vehicles in the Plus update, but there are also 4 additional icons for vehicles that aren't in Plus, including ones for a Mouse, a Robot, a Bull and an unidentified fourth thing (a Fish?). These may have been intended for planned bonus cars that were ultimately scrapped.
Kids Akira#
A very curious graphic depicting Virtua Fighter's Akira Yuki in his Kids incarnation. An assortment of sprites are present in the game showing him performing various attacks from the series. They are listed near graphics for the chibi cars used on the second loop of the Attract Demo (but removed in the Plus update to make way for the FMV intro) in the Scroll Test, so they may have been intended for some sort of a rare cameo in that screen.
Unused Sounds#
Scud Race has some unused sounds in the game ranging from an alternate "Go!" voice, the aforementioned Super Beginner course, and of course, an alternate coin sound.
Sound |
Description |
|---|---|
An alternate coin sound. In the final game, only Coin1 was used. |
|
A female voice screaming "Go!". It is unknown where this was used, most likely an earlier version of "Go!" before the current announcer says "Go!" instead. |
|
|
A sound of the car horns passing by, it is unusual to have traffic cars in the game. |
A Japanese female voice saying "Waiting for your entry", it was supposed to be played on the Japanese cabinets before the other player joins. |
|
|
These were originally going to be used when the player won in the linked game. However, since the game cuts to a cutscene of the player cheering when being placed first, this goes unused. |
A line that was supposed to be said after you choose a transmission during a linked game, this sound doesn't play despite the message pops up ("Section Underway! Please wait!"). |
|
An alternative take on "Perfect race!" line when you placed 3rd and below. |
|
This was originally going to be said during the name entry screen similar to Daytona USA. |

Hidden Debug Menu#
A hidden debug menu is accessible under a certain version of the supermodel 3 emulator with network support. It is currently unknown what causes this menu to show up when networking is enabled in place of the test menu. For the menu to appear, you must have the Link ID set to "MASTER" and supermodel should be launched with the -net command line option.

Unused Objects#
There are a few objects that went unused in the final game.
o_f50#
A Ferrari F50. This was likely only used in very early stages of development, as there is no interior, wheel or lower LOD models.
o_1kcar0_a#
The AI car from Daytona USA. Like the F50, it is also missing interior, wheel and lower LOD models.
