Samurai Deeper Kyo is a fighting game based on the manga/anime series of the same name.
Almost six years after its initial release in Japan, the game was localized and included as a bonus for people who purchased the anime box set in the US, which makes it the last GBA title released in North America.

The Japanese version uses 4 kbit EEPROM v122 save type. Upon startup, the game checks that exactly 4KB is present in the save data. If this check fails, the game will still boot normally but the first boss enemy, Jimon, will be slightly invincible when taking damage, and then becomes completely invincible after half of the damage is taken, rendering the game unbeatable.
This check is seemingly not present in the American version.
