Pokémon II (Genesis)

A strange Pac-Man-type game where Pikachu must collect floating orbs while avoiding mummies, guys with bucket helmets, Arabic caterpillars, Asian butchers, and Grim Reapers, or else he dies and sounds like a Jamaican guy.

Right at the beginning of the ROM is a set of credits for the TomSoft MegaDrive SDK, which was used to develop the game:

Later at 0x1CAF55 are some more credits:

A little later are some error messages in broken English:

Harry Potter#

An alternate version which has exactly the exact same gameplay, but most of the graphics and sounds were changed.

Unused Text#

Just like Pokémon II, it has developer credits right at the beginning of the ROM, but it seems to have been changed by another person, likely the person who dumped the ROM.

An alternate dump of this game exists which contains the same Tomsoft credit text as Pokémon II.

Title Screen#

Pokémon II	Harry Potter

The (barely-readable) text underneath the Harry Potter logo reads "und der Stein der Weisen", which is German for "and the Philosopher's Stone", referring to the first book/film in the series.

Splash Screens#

Each level has its own splash screen before starting.

Pokémon II	Harry Potter

Pokémon II	Harry Potter
Gotta catch 'em all!

The game endlessly repeats, and Level 1's splash screen is just the title screen (minus the Push Start graphic) for both.

Level 1#

Pokémon II	Harry Potter

Level 1 in Pokémon II takes place in some crazy bar, and at a castle in Harry Potter. The former's music is a short loop of the first level theme from Cool Spot, while the latter's is taken from the film.

Level 2#

Pokémon II	Harry Potter

Level 2 is the same in both games, but with different palettes and music.
