Error Screen#

An error handler that notifies the player when the contacts on the cart become misread; obviously this will never appear on a Game Boy since the game would lock up upon reading a bad opcode and this message was likely displayed on test equipment. Specific Super Game Boy palettes do not exist for this screen and will display the prior screen's setting. GameShark code 010F90FF will display the message on any screen.

Japanese Error Screen#

The error screen as shown in the Japanese version. The message translates to: "A fatal transmission error has occurred. Please reset the game using start."

International Error Screen#

The error screen as shown in the international release. Nintendo didn't bother translating and updating the screen to fit the roman font.

Level 9#

Accessing this level in File 1 crashes, so accessing this in File 2 give you the stages Watch on YouTubeusing gameshark code 01FF58CE gives you access to 255 levels. These rooms have no way of moving on to another room. Also, if you pause and unpause you will see it has the same scheme as the after credits room, but the music gets corrupt.

Invalid boss sprite#

Fifth boss metasprite has two invalid built frames. After being hit, one of its eyes uses a wrong sprite index. Instead of using sprite 0x29, they used sprite 0x39. For that reason, sprite 0x29 remains unused in the original ROM.

Regional Differences#

Title Screen/Super Game Boy Border#

Japan

International

The logos on the title screen and the Super Game Boy border were changed. The former also changed palettes, which resulted in the hills in the background changing colors.

All Items Cheat#

All versions of the game have a cheat that gives the player all of the items in the game, entered while paused and holding Select. For whatever reason, the code is different depending on the region.
