To do:
|
Debug Menu#
Press Right (×2), Left (×2), Select on the title screen.
This menu can't be accessed this way in the credit-based arcade versions, as Select simply adds a credit to the player's credit total.
The debug menu has the following options:
- Debug Lv1/2: Changes the game level.
- Stage Sel: Selects a stage to play. Clearing a stage that way shows the text "Debug LvX-Y Clear," where X is the game level and Y is the selected stage.
- Star Move: Changes the way stars appear and move.
- Sound Tst: A sound test option. Press A while this option is highlighted to play a sound effect or background music.
- Graphic: Press A to view artwork or a stage background.
- Jump Type: Configures the method of performing high jumps. This has no effect when playing as New-chan due to her using a double jump ability, while options 0 and 1 have their functionalities swapped in the Fujimino-ban release. There are three options:
- 0: The default option. Press A or B while holding Up to jump higher.
- 1: Press A to jump higher. Disables the ability to do high jumps with Up + A/B. This is the sole high jump method in Kira Kira Star Night AC.
- 2: Combines options 0 and 1 while also retaining the ability to do high jumps with Up + A/B.
- Credit: When this is highlighted and set to 1, pressing A will allow you to view the game's credits.
Regional Differences#
The original Famicom version would later be released internationally by Limited Run Games.
A Limited Run splash screen was added to the NES release.

- The second arcade release, Kira Kira Star Night exa, for exA-Arcadia arcade cabinet.
- The 2024 Kira Kira Star Night!, which was also bundled in RIKI 8Bit Game Collection for Nintendo Switch.

Logo alterations aside...
- Tournament Edition:
- Has New-chan on the title screen, who also becomes the default playable character instead of Kirara-chan. The Game Over and Stage Clear screens still feature Kirara-chan, however.
- New-chan has a double jump ability, activated by pressing A or B while mid-air.
- In the standard Kira Kira Star Night DX, New-chan can be played as using the button command Right Left Right Left Select on the title screen. In Tournament Edition, it's the other way around, so Kirara-chan becomes playable with the same button command.
- Allows you to select a single stage to play by pressing Left or Right on the title screen. The standard mode with all stages is accessed by starting the game with "ALL" selected.
- Has New-chan on the title screen, who also becomes the default playable character instead of Kirara-chan. The Game Over and Stage Clear screens still feature Kirara-chan, however.
- AC:
- Adds a credit system and changes the copyright date to 2017. Inserting a credit causes Kirara-chan to stop animating.
- Uses Jump Type 1 as the only jump type (press A to jump higher).
- Fujimino-ban:
- Adds a new screen featuring the Fujimino logo before the title screen.
- Moves the copyright info to the right (matching its position from the international Limited Run Games version) and updates the year to 2018.
- Adds screen fade-out animations when transitioning to another screen.
- Colors the leading zeroes in the gameplay and Stage Clear screens differently.
- Shows a stage's number, as well as its associated song title and composer name and artist, when starting one.
- Adds a high score leaderboard listing the top three scores for each game level. A name entry screen appears at the end of a game if you achieve a new high score.
- Swaps the functionalities of Jump Types 0 and 1, making the default type the same as it was in AC.
- Introduces a new secret character Bit-chan from 8BIT MUSIC POWER - another title by Riki - replacing New-chan. She can be played as with the same button command as the New-chan one.
- Changes the True Ending artwork.
- exa:
- Has the credits system carried over from the AC release and the copyright info updated to reflect the new publisher and year.
- Features three characters that can be selected from the title screen, all returning from the previous versions: Kirara-chan, New-chan and Bit-chan.
- Adds a continue screen.
- The 2024 Kira Kira Star Night! release:
- Retains the three playable characters from the exa version, who need to be unlocked by either playing through the game or using an unlock code on the Options screen.
- Introduces a two-player cooperative mode, a Practice mode to learn the stages, and allows you to pause in the middle of a game.
- The Debug Mode was removed in favor of newly added Option Menu in the Title Screen, which allows you to access Sound Test, alter the demo play to be longer, toggles Sound Effects, as well as view Ranking and Credits.
- Adds two new True Ending image artwork.
- Revamps the jingle, pause and jump sound effects. It adds a total of 10 new BGM tracks and two BGM sets (Album #2' and Album #3).
