King's Knight is a vertical shoot 'em up with a hint of RPG, and is one of the first games to be directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, and composed by Nobuo Uematsu, both now of Final Fantasy fame.
It's generally considered terrible nowadays, mainly due to combining high difficulty with a heavily reliance on hidden items, with some being pretty much required to beat the final stage. It's from the same development team as the NES Ghostbusters, which probably made matters worse.
The game was, of all things, brought back as an in-universe mobile game in Final Fantasy XV. It eventually became an actual game released in 2017 as King's Knight -Wrath of the Dark Dragon-, but its online services were closed in 2018, and the game was delisted in 2019.

The US title screen got a complete overhaul, including the Squaresoft logo. The character sprites are gone, leaving the screen static. The Japanese version mentions the game's developer, which was omitted from the US version, though the "PROGRAMMED BY WORKSS" text is still in the ROM.

The first part of the ending text was cleaned up for the US version. At least there's no spelling errors here...
