Unused Graphics

Oh wow. Sometimes, you have no idea how morbid the things in these pages can be.
This page contains content that is not safe for life, whether it be you or anyone in proximity to you.
Such as:
Depictions of nudity, sex, suicide, and rape.

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically:

  • Check if certain other graphics that I'm unsure about are unused.
  • See what was used in the demo or earlier revisions.

Note: Because it shows up a lot, "kopio" just means "copy" in Finnish.

Playable Le'garde#

Le'garde has numerous graphics for situations that only playable characters can be in, and indeed if he's the party lead and the "CAPTAIN SELECT" switch is ON, most if not all of these will be used without issue.

captain#

Graphics for Le'garde using a bow in the overworld, an action only the player character (and Ragnvaldr, very briefly in a cutscene) can do.

captain2#

Don't try this at home!

Le'garde committing Suicide, a Skill only the player character learns when their Mind drops below 50 for the first time.

captain3#

Le'garde falling into the Black Witch's hole, an animation which only plays for the player character.

Bodysnatched#

Graphics for Le'garde being dragged away by the Lord of the Flies. Only happens to playable characters and Jeanne.

$captain_sawing#

F&H-$captain_sawing1.pngF&H-$captain_sawing2.png F&H-$captain_sawing3.png

Le'garde sawing his own limbs off. In-game, only the player character will saw their own limbs off, and is in charge of amputating party members, with able-bodied ones sometimes helping.

!chained_captain#

Le'garde being sacrificed on the chains in the Temple of Torment. In-game, Le'garde will refuse when asked to be a sacrifice.

Demon Seed#

F&H-LegardeSeed.pngLooks like the Girl has a half-sibling now.

Le'garde performing Demon Seed and holding the Demon Baby. Only the player character can use Demon Seed.

Bunnymask#

Le'garde participating in the Bunnymasks' orgy, which only the player character will do visually.

Marriage#

F&H-$love_captain_mercenary.pngWould this count as D'arce Ending-S+? F&H-$love_captain_ghoul.png

Le'garde showing love to different party members to form a Marriage, as well as the failed Marriage. In-game, Le'garde will refuse when asked to Show Love. There don't seem to be graphics for Enki or Ragnvaldr.

Le'guard#

Le'garde being raped by the Guard, which only happens to the player character.

harvestman_captain#

Le'garde being mutilated and molested by the Harvestman, which only happens to the player character.

Enemy Graphics#

As a rule, just about every enemy in the game has an image of all of their body parts assembled in the files for reference that aren't necessarily used. Unless they differ from their final designs, they aren't included here.

Wild Horse#

Did I get to be in the game? Neeiiiiigh!Did I get to be in the game? Neeiiiiigh! (x2)

The only enemy graphic in the files to be completely cut from the game (barring Enki and Ragnvaldr's bugged encounters), seems to be an early sketch and has a variant with two heads and an extra hoof. Might have been related to the dead horse seen at the entrance of the dungeon, being the only horse in the game.

Marriage of Flesh (Enki)#

marriage1

marriage2

An early rough sketch of the Marriage of Flesh enemy, with the player Abominable Marriage menu portrait artwork to the side as reference. The rough sketch also has it holding a cleaver like the Guards instead of a hatchet. The enemy as a whole is technically unused due to an oversight with their encounter.

Ragnvaldr (Brain Flower)#

Ragnvaldr with a Brain Flower in place of his head, and a hatchet instead of a bow. Like the Marriage of Flesh, accidentally unused due to an oversight.

Lord of Flies#

bodysnatcher (Unused)

bodysnatcher2 (Used)

There exists an early design for the Lord of Flies enemy still in the files, looking more demonic and Beelzebub-like, fitting for its namesake.

Lord of Flies (in door)#

A graphic for the Lord of Flies in a doorway. It seems like "trap" doors that punish you for trying to force them open were considered at one point. It and the door it would have hidden behind (with graphics identical to the used Wooden Door) also exist as unused enemies, but it has no attacks.

Ground Angler#

ground_angler (Unused)

white_angel (Used)

The image on the left is titled "ground_angler" in the game's files, and seems to be an earlier design for the White Angel enemy, with spiked clubs for arms instead of blade-wings, and a thicker, bloated neck.

Uterus#

Unused

Used

A rougher-looking version of the Uterus enemy.

Elite Guard#

eliteguard (Unused)

eliteguard2 (Used)

Now he's protected from the "COVID-19" status effect!

A version of the Elite Guard enemy, with the only difference being it's missing the bottom mask part of its helmet.

Nameless and the Old Guardian's Holes#

Nameless

nameless_torso2 (Unused)

nameless_torso (Used)

Old Guardian

nameless2_torso2 (Unused)

nameless2_torso1 (Used)

Nameless and the Old Guardian both have graphics for their torso having a hole in them. Unknown what the purpose of these were.

Penance Armor#

The Penance Armor, while boasting incredible defense, cannot be removed and places several restrictions on the player. Despite this, there are graphics for actions otherwise impossible while wearing it. These may be remnants of when the Penance Knight was meant to be a completely new character rather than a permanent set of armor. 1

Bunnymasks#

A character in the Penance Armor participating in the Bunnymasks' orgy. In-game when this is attempted, the player is rejected due to the armor rendering their genitalia inaccessible.

Marriage#

A character in the penance armor forming Marriage with a Ghoul. Same as the Bunnymask orgy, this is impossible for a player already in the Penance Armor due to logistical reasons. There are no graphics for any other party members.

Naked Penance Armor?#

The filename of this image is "$naked_penance", likely intended for when the Penance Knight character was to create a sacrificial Husk in Valteil's lab.

Placeholder Graphics#

A default RPGMaker character can still be found on many characters' in-battle spritesheets, as well as Cahara being used as a placeholder basically everywhere.

bloodghoul1_1_kopio#

It's not just you, the stark contrast between how dark Fear & Hunger is and the bright, plucky default RPGMaker guy IS very funny.

On this image in particular, there is also an unused character that heavily resembles the Tormented One (Ronn Chambara), as seen by his distinctive skirt of flesh. The filename "bloodghoul" is also used by the graphics for the used party member summoned by the spell Blood Golem, so it's possible the two were either connected at some point or just shared a design early on.

Demo Leftovers#

Title Screen#

title1 (Unused)

Final

The title screen of the demo version.

Disclaimer#

A standard disclaimer informing the player the game is not in a finished state.

Miscellaneous#

Mercenary#

F&H-mercenary.pngNow it's in a nice frame, but it also looks like someone got some dirt on it...

Character art for Cahara. It seems to be an early version of his Ending-S art.

Knight#

Character art for D'arce. This is actually repurposed concept art.2

Dark Priest#

Character art for Enki. Also concept art, though specifically made for the game.

Curiously, there doesn't seem to be a similar image for Ragnvaldr.

Gro-goroth#

Hold on, I'm coming...Give me a minute... Almost there...I'm here! (Claw of a God's you)

Unused graphics for Gro-goroth. He has a slightly different appearance than in the final game, missing the many eyes and looking more like his design in the Ancient book/Necronomicon. He seems to be emerging from the darkness in a similar manner to the Ancient Demon and Greater Blight enemies, though these images were found in the game's "pictures" folder rather than the "enemies" folder.

Husk#

F&H-$grey.pngF&H-$grey2.png

Two alternate colors for the featureless husks found in Valteil's lab. Despite being yellow, the filename for the one on the right is just "$grey2". The yellow one also features in an unused map and is perplexingly placed out-of-bounds in an important area.

Choose Your Class#

Select a Character#

Two different ways of asking you to pick a playable character. Even though there's plenty of space at the top of the screen for them, they're unused and the game just presents you with the four characters' portraits.

Class Descriptions#

F&H-text_mercenary2.png F&H-text_knight2.png F&H-text_outlander2.png

The text is the same as the used versions, but they're plain black as opposed to the normal style of textbox. For some reason, there isn't one for the Dark Priest.

Happy Ending#

Text that just says "Happy Ending". "Happy ending" is the name of Cahara's Ending S, which uses a different graphic.

Pain & Consciousness?#

F&H-text_primary_pain.png F&H-text_secondary_pain.png F&H-text_consciousness.png

Text for "Primary Pain", "Secondary Pain", and "Consciousness" in the same style as the "Hunger", "Body", and "Mind" meters in the final game.
