Regional Differences

This page sucks. If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome. Specifically: It's all just names, can't there be any more notable differences besides them?

To do: A lot. Find gameplay differences between versions. Add the Japanese voice acting and compare with English equivalent text. Slightly changed Big Sale Cattlelog graphic.

Toontown Online was released and translated into five different additional versions, which are counted as separate games.

• The French version
• The German version
• The Spanish version
• The Brazilian Portuguese version
• The Japanese version.

Know that for some of the translations, some terms are either unknown, entirely lost or were not implemented into their respective version, so they will be omitted. Also, the Toontown UK version was identical to the English version, with a few minor changes.

Compared to sv1.0.xx.xx, The international versions use the following server build naming system;

• Japanese - sv1.2.xx.xx
• German - sv1.3.xx.xx
• French - sv1.5.xx.xx

Many of the servers follow the exact same content update scheme (see the Notes page), for example; sv1.5.8.16.fr is part of the Fishing update builds, due to the third number having "8", and having little traces of future content.

General Differences#

Changes listed in various other versions.

Synergy Attack#

The dollar symbols in the Synergy Attack was changed between versions; The French, German and Spanish versions use Euros, while the Portuguese version uses Brazilian Dollars. The Japanese version uses the original dollars graphic.

Due to being hard to make out in the phase files, the graphics from the Spotify leak will be listed here.

Membership Benefits#

The membership benefits were changed through each version, in order to accommodate for other languages. Some of the graphics share the same images with minor textual changes, and thus will not be covered.

Clothing#

The clothing benefits shows three different Toons in different shops in total, even though the French, Spanish, Portuguese and German graphics (features-clothing_french/german/castillian/portuguese.jpg) are identical save for text.

Neighborhoods#

The locations shown in the images had their signs blurred in the German, Spanish and Portuguese graphics (features-hoods_german/castillian/portuguese.jpg), but the locations were translated in the French graphic (features-hoods_french.jpg).

The Japanese version of the graphic (features-hoods_japanese), however uses different neighborhoods as examples, though English text can be seen in the image.

Cog HQs#

The graphic depicting Sellbot Headquarters was changed to a view of Pajama Place in the French, Spanish and Portuguese versions. The Spanish and Portuguese graphics has the Cog Building name blurred.

This benefit was exclusive to the Spanish and German versions as features-competition_castillian and features-competition_german.

UK Differences#

The mailer graphic was changed.

• The Disney XD option was not made available.
• SpeedChat Plus was not enabled until sv1.0.38.50, released on August 30, 2009.

Miscellaneous Changes#

• The time in battles were raised from 20 to 50 seconds.

French#

Release notes are categorized as sv1.5.xx.xx.

Texture Differences#

To do: Strangely, the changed CFO "golden Euro sign" model is not present in the phase files. Maybe it's hard-coded change?

In Cashbot Headquarters, all instances of Dollar signs were all replaced with Euros, despite the Cashbot insignia and Cog Buildings keeping the "$" symbol. Many of the textures are also in higher resolution as of a result.

Cogbucks were also renamed to "Cogs Euros".

Strangely, the wads of cash (CBCurrencyBack_french.jpg and CBWrapperBill_french.jpg) weren't changed despite having the localized French name of "Nation Cog".

The Synergy attack that can be performed by Name Droppers and Yesmen also has the Dollar sign particles changed to Euros.

Translation Errors#

Billboard Oddities#

To do: Get an image of the first one in normal view, both in English and Japanese versions.

Barnacle Boulevard has two odd billboards. The billboard for Tuft Guy Gym is translated (though it strangely has a 6 at the end of the first line), but cannot be seen due to being lowered behind the wall of Used Life Preservers.

The billboard for Eye of the Storm Optics remains entirely untranslated, although its font was changed.

Inconsistent Maple Street Spelling#

On tunnel signs and billboards, Maple Street is spelled as メープルストリート (Mēpuru Sutorīto). However, Toontasks, loading screens and tunnel transitions spell it as メイプル・ストリート (Meipuru・Sutorīto).

Obscured Oak Street Sign#

The sign on the tunnel to Oak Street has white text which reads この先、コグ本部につき危険！ (From here on, heading to the Cog headquarters is dangerous!). However, Daisy's emblem covers 3 characters on the Oak Street sign, those being 本部に. Because of this, the white text appears to say この先、コグつき危険！(From here on, Cog dangerous!). It's also tilted to the wrong side. This error is not present on the Pajama Place and Polar Place signs, as they use the default tunnel sign. This makes Oak Street the only street with the wood board tunnel sign in the Japanese localization.

Broken formatting in Nat's Toontask dialogue#

Throughout the dialogue found in TTLocalizer.py, _where_ is often called to tell the player which building and street they must go to. However, the dialogue directing the player to meet Nat on Pajama Place is missing its first underscore. As such, the NPC who gives you the quest will erroneously say "ちょっと手伝えるかどうか彼のところに向かってくれる？ where_".

Voice Acting#

To do: Actually add in the voice lines.

Unlike the other versions, the Japanese version had voice acting for the Tutorial as well as the Playground NPCs. Strangely, the code for it is present in other versions in the QuestScripts.txt file.
