Unused Graphics#

Gallo Duel Storyboards#

Found in res_nitro2 are storyboards for the first Gallo duel cutscene.

Nomad Duel Closeup Graphics#

In the Japanese version, the graphics for Nomad's eye closeup portrait seen in his second duel have two portraits with Japanese text: one with a blue border with blue text, and one with red border and red text. The international versions use the top portion of the image without the Japanese text.

Dillon's Rolling Western Leftovers#

Portraits#

Found in res_nitro2, are various leftover portraits from the first game, many are for the previous game's mayors.

Mayors
Dillon

Dillon's portraits from the first game, the game never uses them here as Dillon doesn't have any dialogue.

One thing to note is that he also has a variant without his hat, which never goes used at all.

King Ron

A portrait for King Ron, a character from the previous game, who never makes an appearance here. DillonTLR-anm ChrFaceGorilla.png

Sneak-Peak Trailer#

Found in res_nitro3 are leftover graphics for the first game's sneak peak trailer for this game.

Ultimogrock#

Leftover from the previous game is an alert HUD graphic for the Ultimogrock.

Unused Models#

res_maya28.vpl#

Found in res_maya28.vpl is an armadillo model with a purple bandana, blue armor, black pupils in his eyes, a forehead scar, different accessories (boots, hat, belt and gloves), no mouth and his hat is positioned differently.

This model is based on an earlier concept art for Dillon. The file name for its body texture, texture arma02_p2, suggests this model may have been for a multiplayer mode that was never implemented.

testTama.bcres#

Found in res_maya20.vpl is a sphere with a blueish water texture named testTama.bcres. It also appears in the files for Dillon's Rolling Western. DillonRollingWestern-res_maya14.vpl.png

Unused Sounds#

Dillon#

SE_13_V_JIRO_DAMAGE#

SE_13_V_JIRO_DAMAGE 1-5 are voice clips possibly meant for duels, as they are not used in-game; Dillon's regular damage sounds play instead.

SE_13_V_JIRO_DAMAGE5 would eventually be used in Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers for when Dillon loses all of his hearts during the pursuit section.

SE_13_V_JIRO_GETUP#

SE_13_V_JIRO_GETUP 1-4 are effort sounds for when Dillon tries to get back up. In the final game, he doesn't make any sounds when getting up.

NPCs#

SE_13_V_NPC#

SE_13_V_NPC01-27 are unused voice clips meant for the mayors and NPCs. Interestingly, many of these use voice clips from Family Guy (particularly Peter, Lois and Joe). Dead-Heat Breakers used unique voice clips for the NPCs.

SE_13_V_GRI#

SE_13_V_GRI are gorilla noises for King Ron, a boss character from the previous game. It's not clear if these were leftovers or if King Ron was meant to appear in this game, though he is mentioned a few times by Russ.

Misc#

There are various .bcstm files that have this placeholder sound effect of a text-to-speech voice saying, "Temporary Sound".

Unused Music#

To do:

Harmonica Songs#

Three unused harmonica songs, with various differences between them.

Twilight Swing#

A unique unused track that was eventually remixed and used in Dead-Heat Breakers as Otis's theme.

Echoes of the Wild#

Tumbleweed Blues#

A unique saloon track that was possibly meant to be used for a cutscene.

Dillon's Rolling Western Leftovers#

Other than the seven unused music tracks that can be played from the Jukebox when you beat the game, there's four music tracks leftover from the previous game that cannot be played through the jukebox.

Beginning Cutscene#

The beginning cutscene theme from the first game.

End Credits#

The end credits music from the first game.

Ending Cutscene#

The ending cutscene music from the first game.

Sound Effect Curiosity#

Boone's in-game voice clips are pitched lower and slowed down than what can be heard if the clips were ripped.

Obscured Graphics#

To do:
Rip the other portrait graphics and compare them to what they look like in-game.

Many character portraits are obscured in-game, especially their legs.

Oddity#

Gallo's Ally HUD icon is a 3D render, inconsistent with the 2D style for his Alert HUD icon and the icons for Nomad and Boones.

Development Oversights#

Cutscene Oddities#

In the cutscene before the second duel with Boone, when Dillon looks at Russ, he looks behind him in the same way as in the first duel with Boone, but with Russ next to Dillon instead of behind him. As a result, Dillon is looking behind him but nothing is there.

Internal Project Name#

According to the sound archive's file name, arm2.bscar, the internal project name is "arm2", which is the same as the first game, but with a "2". The game was originally called Dillon's Rolling Western 2 in the sneak peek trailer found in the first game.
