You're stranded in Hell on Bazoik, going out of your way to discharge buckshot zorch to the hellspawn Flemoids, and eventually saving your comrades from a Baron of Hell the Flembrane.

Sub-Page#

The Ultimate Chex#

While Chex Quest is normally played up to E1M5 (5 levels), it actually shipped with the rest of the levels from The Ultimate Doom. These levels feature broken texturing, as elements in them were replaced for use in the five original Chex Quest levels.

The Chex Quest 3 release excised the leftover levels from the IWAD.

Unused Graphics#

The Flembrane#

The Flembrane has three attack frames, but the final one is programmed to last zero tics. As a result, only the first two frames are seen in-game.

Unused Player Sprites#

Multiplayer functionality was stripped from the setup program. Consequently, the player sprites are not seen in-game, leaving them unused.

Unused Endings#

Despite Chex Quest being a family-friendly game, the endings of Doom Episodes 2, 3, and 4 remain intact in the IWAD, including the impaled bunny.

Alternate IWAD#

To do:
Incorporate this stuff into the article more gooder than I can:

  • Placeholder DSWEPNUP replacement, that being a recording of a dev saying "Boop!"
  • More leftover Doom graphics inside (mainly graphics that got updated/accidentally
  • Sprites for LAZ Device effects (BFS1, BFE1, BFE2) have different vertical offsets which actually line up better than the final's

An alternate IWAD named DOOM.wad is in the MACINTOS/ directory on the disc, intended to be used with the Mac version of Ultimate Doom.

  • Different demo loop.
  • Different item pickup SFX.
  • E1M2 and E1M4 have slightly different start points.

Map 2

CHEX.WAD

Map 4

CHEX.WAD

  • E1M4 has a slightly different layout, different decorations, contains 5 fewer enemies, and has two pickups changed to be items.
  • E1M5 has a room where enemies are stacked on top of each other. In here there's another enemy and the wall is a solid wall so you can't access the room. LAZ Device pickup is also missing in a hidden room in the end area.
  • Doom music in the intermission screen when finishing E1M5.
  • Some more Doom monsters can be seen in the leftover maps, rather than them being invisible.
  • Black ENDOOM.
