Awesomenauts

This game is defunct.
Do note the game no longer works at all without modifications. This is most likely due to the game's servers being shut down (as of September 15, 2023). As a result, further official developments with the game are unlikely to happen.

Awesomenauts is a 2D MOBA where two teams of 3 face off against each other.

The game had been receiving updates since its release that added new content, game modes, characters, bugfixes, and balance tweaks. Currently there are 33 characters (known as Awesomenauts) that each feature their own character theme, ranging from all different kinds of races: A dynamite-throwing cowboy, a gangster frog that shoots water, an exploding robot, a wizard worm, a flame-throwing crocodile...

Ronimo Games' announced in September 2019 that they are going to stop working on development updates for Awesomenauts.1 Version 4.7.1 was the last game update which was released on July 24, 2018.

In August 2023, Ronimo Games' was declared bankrupt and as a result, the game's servers went offline on September 15, 2023.

Hence forth, players starting up the game are greeted by a loading screen that never finishes, with the only option to quit the game. Although it is possible to set the game back to version 3.2.8 (the last version now playable which uses Steam's online matchmaking servers before Ronimo Games transitioned to their own), the method to do so is tedious and players are not hinted towards this method in the first place. This caused the remaining playerbase to drop significantly.

Atari has acquired the rights to Awesomenauts on October 24, 20232, giving players hope that the game might be brought back to its original state but nothing has happened since.

To do:
Create a pre-release article. There is lots of beta-only content and concept art, especially the artbook. See here for more info.

  • Add unused textures that were present in older versions of the game or are still present in the current version. (Unicorn medal, drop pod crafting related icons, etc.)
  • The beginning of this video shows the game in a very early state; Put it in a pre-release article.

Unused Music#

MusicMatchStart.ogg#

This music plays at the beginning of a match, but usually only the first 35 seconds can be heard. Outside of pausing in an offline bot match, it cannot ever be heard.

Unused Level Objects#

Some objects are not used in any official maps and cannot normally be placed in the map editor. It is still possible to place them in custom maps by editing the copypaste.xml file manually and pasting the content of the clipboard in the map editor. Watch on YouTube

Spike#

Stuns, may have additional settings?

Treasure#

Drops solar when touched. While it acts the same way as "Pickups" when their "type" setting is set to "Treasure", this item has its own LevelObject.

ReGrower#

Moves when hit. Moves back to its original position after a while.

Destroyable#

Wall that can be destroyed when hit.

MessageButton#

While used in official maps, this LevelObject is not available in the map editor object list. However it can be copied by using one of the official maps as a template. It allows to display game messages like "You reached the enemy base!"

Ted's Titanium Skin#

The Titanium Ted skin was inspired by the StarCraft II version of Jim Raynor, but to avoid copyright issues with Blizzard Entertainment the skin was soon altered. Ronimo Games offered full refunds to anyone who purchased the skin prior to its changes.
