This page details one or more prototype versions of Ys: Ancient Ys Vanished Omen (PC-88).
A demo of Ys, found in many stores playing on display units. This was distributed some time before the June 21 release of the game.
Unused Text#
Though technically almost all of the text is 'unused' since the demo only engages 4 text events (or 8 text opportunities if you include picking up the Ruby, engaging the Inventory & Status screens, and finally reaching the Game Over screen), there is text in place for everything that exists in the final version of Disk A.
Item Names#
The item table for the demo contains 28 pointers and 26 names (the retail version has 28 pointers and 33 names). Most of the item names used match what the final retail version uses, except for the following 3:

The final/retail version of the game instead has only two keys in this section: ぞうげ の かぎ (Ivory Key) and だいりせき の かぎ (Marble Key).
Dialogue#
Most of this text matches whats in the retail version, however there are several bits that differ. One very notable difference is that one of the Minean children mention the name of Roda's brother!

We always play in the field by the twin trees "Bajju" and "Roda". |
Another interesting difference is that Donis was previously a redhead

Graphical Differences#
The sprite for the Zepik women is slightly different - in the demo version their heads are covered while the retail version has them dawning a full head of long, blonde hair, a slightly less-red dress and a blue shawl.

Map Differences#
The temple does not have a narthex yet, and the entrance puts Adol near the Ruby (with no door in sight)!
