A preview build of Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, which unfortunately lacks a debug menu.

With a build date of August 15, 2003, it predates the final build date of September 30, 2003 by 45 days.

General Differences#

The HUD in this prototype is differently positioned, gray Alpha Preview Disc text is at the bottom of the screen, the logo is on the top right corner and the background is different than the final version of the background.

Prototype

Final

Options Menu#

The options screen is just a language selection in this prototype. In the final, you have more options.

Prototype

Final

Pause Screen#

The pause screen in this prototype is slightly different from the final, it is interesting that the HUD in an earlier demo from June resembles the final pause screen more closely.

Prototype

Final

Vendor#

The Megacorp Vendor in this prototype is almost identical to the final, except that the floating text saying "Megacorp" around it is blue in this prototype, unlike the final game where it is white.

Missing Levels#

Eight planets, two space battles and a Ship Vendor level are available in this preview build, with Tabora being the last accessible level. Attempting to visit planet Dobbo causes the game to crash, as the level files are not present on the disc. This is in contrast to the earlier August 8th prototype which included the additional level files, albeit with broken level code and missing sector table references. A list of accessible planets are on the list below, which includes some early names for some planets. Wupash Nebula and Jamming Array are unnamed in this build, and display the game's generic missing string error "Paradox: This message does not exist" when attempting to display their names.

Early Megacorp Outlet Theme#

The theme for the Megacorp Outlet is an entirely different track, which sounds much more intense compared to the peaceful elevator music heard in the final game.
