This is a sub-page of Proto:Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday.

This prototype is documented on Hidden Palace.

A soft reset is required for the game to load properly.

Logos#

  • The Sunsoft logo is the first screen shown when the game is booted up in this prototype (but no music plays at all), with the yellow version one by default, although all other Sunsoft logo variants are also present if you soft-reset the game each time.
    • The WB logo doesn't seem to be created yet, so it next jumps over to the copyright screen, of which there is only one in this build.

  • The colors of the text are much brighter than in later builds.
    • The game title was initially located slightly upward and lacked the apostrophe on the second word (PIGS instead of PIG'S), likely by mistake.
    • The Sunsoft logo is white, small, lacks borders and the position was later moved up closer to "Presented by".
    • "Game created by" was changed to "Game developed by" in the later build. The colors for G and M were changed just for this line, as otherwise "GAME" appeared mostly pink.
    • The Dark logo has some bright pixels around the border, "d" and "k" that was altered later, and the "a" was redrawn to help distinct its shape more.
    • The copyright text is separated into two paragraphs, one for "All Loony Tunes characters" and another just for Porky and Daffy.
    • "Licensed by Nintendo" is absent from this screen.

Title Screen#

May 24th, 1994

January 26th, 1995 - Final

  • This is the first build to include a proper title screen.
    • The Start and Options icons will appear if you press start or wait until the music song ends. In the later builds (including the final version), they appear from the top of the screen into bouncing effect and already works as soon as the title opens.
    • The demos seems to be absent early in the development.
    • Porky's head was made wider, his second set of eyebrows was removed, and his left ear was pushed back.
    • The drop shadow underneath the y in "Porky" was modified.
    • Some brighter pixels were removed around the outer edge of the rings.
    • A WB banner under the rings was removed.
    • "Haunted Holiday" was moved slightly upward.

Levels#

Level 1 - The Haunted Woods#

May 24th, 1994

January 26th, 1995 - Final

The first room was introduced in this prototype, as the early March 16, 1994 proto leads Porky to the second room instead.

Also, the background is positioned lower than in later builds.

The swinging ball trap (also present on level 4 and 6) was originally spikey that looked more dangerous than the known design.

  • Next to the hole located after the start of the second room, a heart is absent in both March and May protos while a cupcake was strangely removed in later versions.
  • Next to the lonesome cupcake area, two additional enemies were also removed later, likely for slowdown reduction in addition of leaving the path empty.
  • In the same location, one of those branches (the one above Porky's head) had a "falling log" that was removed later in the development.

One branch (The left one shown - located near the very top-left of the room) misses some details around the top border. Someone was very skilled enough to notice it before the next known proto.

January 26, 1995 - Final

  • The fruit bowl weapon was located at the top-left of the room in this build while in later versions they moved it after the first checkpoint.
  • It was replaced with a 1-up and moved the heart to the same location too. The big branch makes sense because has more spacing enough to include two items.
  • The arrow sprite lacks shading in this prototype.

January 26, 1995 - Final

  • Early checkpoint and Daffy Duck palettes.
  • Porky looked more frightened than the later design.
  • The jump up effect is easy to notice that remember the classic cartoons. That was lost after the aforementioned design change.

January 26, 1995 - Final

The hidden entrance to the Spider Web room lacks "the door" as well as the grass of the ledge gaining a small fix later in the progress.

May 24, 1994

January 26, 1995 - Final

Instead of a 1-up, the first of three bonus items of this level was located here.

May 24, 1994

January 26, 1995 - Final

All four cupcakes were replaced to hearts and their positions were adjusted as well.

May 24, 1994

January 26, 1995 - Final

On the path above the spider web room entrance, another cupcake has been replaced by a heart.

May 24, 1994

January 26, 1995 - Final

The second of three bonus items. Another 1-up replaces it.

May 24, 1994

January 26, 1995 - Final

Only two cupcakes were replaced by hearts in the secret room located below the normal exit of the second room.

May 24, 1994

January 26, 1995 - Final

While the third room looks pretty finished, four bats were added later.

Options Menu#

May 24th, 1994

January 26th, 1995 - Final

  • This is the first build to include it.
  • Everything is already present as soon as you enter while later in the development they appear from the top of the screen into the same bouncing effect like the title screen.
  • The controls, playing SFX Test, Music Test and Exit only works by presssing B, unlike later.

May 24th, 1994

January 26th, 1995 - Final

  • The configuration looks strange but the early proto already has the controls working as intended even if you keep everything as the "Jump" command.
  • "Press Start to Exit" was added later, using the empty spacing below the control.
  • The yellow commands lacks shine in the May build.
