Early Maps

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

This is a sub-page of Proto:Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!/May 12, 2018.

To do:
Need to update with all areas. Then, move the Imgur links into the actual page with a proper layout and comparisons when needed. Maybe change the items into comparison tables (with item icons) with the final?

Various areas lack NPCs, have early visuals, sport different items, and some locations were cut from the game entirely. If a location isn't here, that means it's the same in the final. For Wild Encounter and Trainer battle differences in each location, see here and here.

Many differences will have images associated with them, which can be found through clicking their text.

Pallet Town#

Main Details#

  • Many areas (particularly in the early game starting in Pallet Town) feature water that doesn't animate.
  • The cutscene of stepping out into Pallet Town for the first time is missing.
  • Wild Pokémon from Route 21 can be seen from Pallet Town, which does not happen in the final game.

Visible Pokémon

  • The Player's Room includes a cushion in front of the table, which was removed in the final.

Proto

Final

  • Additionally, the player's house lacks an NPC next to it in May 2018.

Proto

Final

  • Your rival's house uses a completely different color scheme on the inside. This could possibly be a reference to the original Rival's house in Generation 1, known as Green. An earlier February 2018 build suggests that this was the case given that the outside is also completely green.
  • An early map of Kanto can be seen on the table underneath a book, which was removed by the time of the final.

Viridian City#

NPCs#

  • Plenty of NPCs dotted around Viridian City are completely absent in this build.

Viridian Forest#

Main Details#

  • The camera in Viridian Forest is noticeably closer to the player for the most part when compared to the final.

Proto

  • Both Viridian Forest Gates lack NPCs, with the Exit gate having a noticeably low camera angle.

Final Exit

  • Many signs don't begin with the "Trainer Tips" text that they should in this build, and are very much a work-in progress when compared to the final.

Proto

NPCs#

  • This Bug Catcher has a different placement in the final build.

Proto

Final

  • Includes Coach Trainer Kareem, who was moved to Route 3 in the final.

  • The Bug Catcher at the first split in Viridian Forest is completely absent.

Pewter City#

Main Details#

  • The Pewter Museum has unfinished graphics, and also is missing many NPCs.

NPCs#

  • Pewter City is missing many NPCs that are present in the final game.
  • Notably, the lady with a Slowpoke that gives you one Nugget per day is missing, though her text seems to be present in the game's script.

  • Some NPCs that are intended to be playing on Nintendo Switches simply are missing them in this build, despite the text still being similar to the final.

Proto

Final

LGEFinalPewterSwitchKids.png
  • Oddly, the Super Nerd at the counter is replaced with a Scientist in the final.

Proto

Final

LGEFinalPewterMuseumNerd.png
  • In the Pewter Pokémon Center, a girl mentions that Brock is a "Ground-type Pokémon user!". While this is technically true, it was changed to to "Rock-type" in the final. Strangely, this NPC doesn't appear to be a leftover from a previous game, like many other oddities of a similar nature.

Proto

Final

Items#

  • Instead of giving you 5 Great Balls like in the final, Blue instead gives the player 5 Rare Candies.

Proto

Route 3#

Main Details#

  • Route 3 has a slightly unfinished battle environment, with small differences in geometry (note the raised hill near the sign) and far less background trees.

Proto

Final

NPCs#

  • A completely new Bug Catcher named Colton is found here that is missing in the final.

Proto

Final

  • Coach Trainer Kareem was originally in Viridian Forest in this build, but was moved to Route 3 in the final.

Mt. Moon#

Main Details#

  • Mt. Moon has many overhangs that obscure the player's view. They're significantly pulled back in the final to the point where they aren't noticeable.

Proto

Final

LGEFinalMtMoonOverhang.png

NPCs#

  • Lass Evelyn (known as Lass Hana in this build) has a different placement to the final. Interestingly, her placement is near-identical to a Lass in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Items#

  • In the center of this plateau, one Poké Ball item is present as opposed to the ×5 in the final.

  • In the final, this Lure became a Repel.

Cerulean City#

Main Details#

  • Beating Misty's Gym Battle crashes the game.
  • The "Cascade Badge" is spelled as "CASCADEBADGE" when given to the player as it was in previous games.
  • During your Rival battle in Cerulean City, the battle environment is largely a work in progress.

Proto

Final

  • The player cannot interact with various signs around Cerulean City.

NPCs#

  • Obtaining Bulbasaur requires the player to have caught at least 50 Pokémon, as opposed to 30+ in the final. This house is also missing a Sandshrew and Oddish, and lacks more prominent shadows & lighting.

Proto

Proto

Final

  • NPC placement within the Cerulean Pokémon Center has minor differences.
  • Additionally, the girl that will trade you an Alolan Rattata for your Kantonian Rattata is not present in this build, and instead can be located in Vermilion City's Pokémon Center.
  • A Gentleman in the Pokémon Center refers to Bill as a Pokémaniac as opposed to the Pokémon fanatic like in the final.

Test Maps#

This build also has plenty of maps clearly for testing purposes that can be accessed through the Debug Menu.

Test (Outside)#

By going to field debug system --> AreaZoneJump --> area_test --> /Test (outside) the player is taken to a ghostly white version of Pallet Town with no collision. Entering any house will warp the player to the top left of the map, and the music played here is the same track as in the previous area when warping - which is not the case when warping to other areas with the Debug Menu. Above Pallet Town is a very basic-looking Route 1, which appears like it was used for testing ledge-hopping. The Poké Ball item is a Potion that is picked up twice for some reason.

Pallet Town Test Map

Rt. 1 Test Map

When talking to the NPCs, the woman in the bottom left will crash the game when interacted with. The woman in the center references dialogue from Four Island in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, as she mentions Pokémon Eggs and talking to her sister inside the building. This suggests that either Pokémon Breeding mechanics or Sevii Islands content from FireRed and LeafGreen was planned at some point. Your Rival offers to trade you an Alolan Rattata for a Kantonian Rattata (which is done by a different NPC in the final) and the remaining NPCs (one hidden in the top left of the map's geometry and in the bottom right of Pallet Town) cannot be interacted with at all. There is a cuttable tree near the rival.

FRLG Dialogue 1

FRLG Dialogue 2

test_chr01 -> test_chr04#

By going to field debug system --> AreaZoneJump --> test_chr01 --> ~tr0025/Character test~tr0025 a basic test map with many trainer models can be accessed. None of them can be interacted with besides the Coach Trainer at the top left, which instantly crashes the game. The area uses Route 1's music.

test_chr01

test_chr01

Similarly, by going to field debug system --> AreaZoneJump --> test_chr02 --> ~tr0050/Character test~tr0050 another test map with non-interactable trainers can be found. Heading to field debug system --> AreaZoneJump --> test_chr03 --> ~tr0075/Character test~tr0075 also produces another test map with more NPCs. The music on these maps are also shared with Route 1.

test_chr02

test_chr03

The final test map can be accessed with field debug system --> AreaZoneJump --> test_chr04 --> ~tr00100/Character test~tr00100 and has yet another arrangement of NPCs that cannot be interacted with. Below that however is an assortment of NPCs that exist specifically to test their collision width, which range from 30 Units, 50 Units, and 70 Units from the top row to the bottom. A model of your Rival is also present, and just has a generic Yes/No dialogue box that serves no functionality outside of being interactable.
