Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors. |
This build is dated 4 months before the January 15th 2013 PC release of the game (and 3 months before the game's release version that was built in December 10th, 2012), featuring various changes throughout.
Unused Content#
- Dante has long white hair for Devil Trigger that isn't used in gameplay or cutscenes. This hair will appear and render in addition to Dante's current hair when certain show console commands are used.
General Differences#
- The game can't be Alt-F4'd.
- The game doesn't stop when Alt-Tabbed.
- The debug menu is enabled by default.
- The game is prone to crashing and slowing down the more it is open.
- Lighting is different across the board.
- In missions, the audio engine is very unstable, not playing certain sounds or cutting audio out entirely when a threshold is reached. When this happens, you can either toggle the Mute All setting twice, or go to the main menu and continue to get the sound back.
- Every pre-rendered cutscene is in a less finished state compared to final.
- Missions start instantly without fade in if they're preloaded by finishing the previous mission.
- Some title cards and advanced tips can fail to appear.
- Vortex sequences look and sound slightly different and don't have voicelines. The pre-rendered eye cutscenes around them usually lack sounds.
Menus#
- General Differences
- Menu titles don't have a red shadow.
- The menu transition sound is different.
- Button prompt graphics are different.
- There are separator lines between menu elements.
- There are no tips in the loading screens.
- The "Now Loading" text is next to the loading icon instead of below it.
- Title Screen
- The DmC logo is on the top-left corner of the screen, instead of being above the amulet.
- The start prompt is at the center of the screen, instead of being below the amulet.
- The title music is an early version and loops differently.
- Main Menu
- The background video doesn't loop.
- There is an "Enter Prize Code" option in Extras that displays Sorry, there are no prizes matching that code. when selected.
- The save check and loading boxes have a white outline.
- Options
- "Show Tutorials" is at the top instead of the bottom.
- "Graphics Settings" is called "Video Settings" and is located below Mouse Sensitivity instead of at the top.
- "Mouse Sensitivity" is called "Mouse Sensivity"(<span style="cursor:help; border-bottom:thin dotted cornflowerblue;" id="tooltip" title="
The preceding text has been transcribed exactly as presented in the original source ">sic).
- Controls
- Gun Special and Devil Trigger can be bound to a single input.
- Binding moves with a controller will freeze the menu, but they will still be saved. Console commands can be used to get out of this menu without having to shut the game off.
- Mission Select
- The background image is different.
- The style ranks all have their own colored outlines.
- Mission Start
- Dante is angled differently on the background video.
- The loop animation is different.
- Health Fragments are shown next to Gold Orbs.
- Keys held are not shown.
- The fade out is very slow with a long bass sound.
- Shop
- When choosing between upgrades and items, descriptions are shown below where the portraits or previews would be instead of being next to the button prompts.
- The Abilities section's image is Dante's 2D portrait instead of his render.

- While calculating the score, the Super Dante negative multiplier never stops ticking, requiring the player to skip the calculation.
- "Leaderboard score submitted" is above the options on the left instead of being above the button prompt on the right.
Gameplay#
- Kat's pathfinding has problems and she can occasionally get stuck on things. Depending on the mission, she might have to be pushed by the player to progress.
- Orbs travel to Dante very slowly.
- The auto lock-on is worse at acquiring targets.
- Moves and enemies
- Pressing Jump while holding a direction + Shoot will make Dante dodge instead.
- When performing moves without pushing any direction input with keyboard and mouse controls, camera movement will influence Dante's orientation based on the last direction that Dante moved in, acting as if the player is constantly pushing in that direction. Camera movement has no effect in the final game.
- This also means that Dante cannot jump while charging a shot and can't neutral dodge in the air with keyboard and mouse controls.
- Angel Lift and Demon Pull points can fail to function at higher FPS.
- Demon Pull's elbow strike deals 5 damage.
- Payoff against airborne Butchers will do a downwards strike instead of an uppercut.
- Dodging an attack with Demon Dodge sends Dante further. This effect is amplified with higher FPS.
- Dante can Demon Dodge in the air to do a long dash in a slight downward arc. This dash has a unique property where it stores Dante's momentum before it and applies it at the end.
- Aquila is unfinished.
- Aquila attacks will make Dante bounce off of Hell Knights.
- Grounded Buy In is terrible at pulling enemies in, usually sending them to random directions.
- Skirmish's finishing hit doesn't connect, matching the video shown in the shop in the final game.
- Caliber has a different float compared to the final build.
- Round Trip doesn't target a set point of the enemies and multiple Round Trips can be attached to them. Round Trip can't hit the Hunter boss. A fully charged Round Trip will take Butchers out of their Enrage.
- Eryx's Snake Eyes can't be released in a different direction after charging it.
- Infinite height exploits: Shoot + Rainstorm and Angel Lift + Kablooey Shot.
- Demon Stomp is easier to break when cancelling it with other moves, putting Dante in a state where he's locked into the Stomp animation until Dante uses a gun move, dodges, or uses Devil Trigger.
- SOS/DMD enemy waves are different.
- A Rage's regular attacks can't be parried. Only their spindash can be parried.
- Kicker will break a Devil Triggered Dreamrunner into their pull animation if they don't do a counter move against it. They will still react accordingly to Dante's next attack and free themselves. They cannot react to most of Dante's attacks if Dante uses Devil Trigger, making them completely stuck until they die.
- Enemy Step will cancel a Dreamrunner's air counterattack.
- Butchers stay on the ground longer when knocked down.
- Witches don't teleport out of long falls that would lead to environmental kills.
Visuals#
- Dante
- Dante has only one special idle animation and it is unique to this build.
- The NextGuy animations are different.
- Dante's coat can get glitchy in both cutscenes and gameplay.

- Red and White Orb counters have a different font on the HUD.
- Boss health bars don't display properly.
- Title cards put an orange tint on the screen instead of red.
