Red Bull#

The Red Bull was an utility item present in Worms 4: Mayhem‍ 's predecessor, Worms 3D. It was a direct reference to a real-life drink of the same name and the only instance where a real-life product appeared in as an item the series.

In Worms 3D, the item gave Worms super speed and low-gravity jumps. However, this artwork shows that the item was updated so that using it would give the user wings, an obvious reference to real-life Red Bull‍ 's famous slogan and commercials. If one is familiar with Worms 4‍ 's arsenal, they would recognize this utility to be identical to the final game's Icarus Potion, a beverage that gives its user wings to fly around the map with. Furthermore, the item has an unused weapon icon remaining in the game's files, albeit with the "Red Bull" text removed.

We can posit that while the Red Bull was initially intended to return in Worms 4: Mayhem, it was ultimately scrapped and replaced with the Icarus Potion.

Shield#

Art of a Worm holding up a shield. The drawing of the shield is used in the retail game as the HUD icon for the Armor utility, but an unused 3D model in the files suggests it was meant to be something more elaborate.

Bunker#

A completely unknown item with visual similarities with the Girder.

Judging by the artwork, it may have been a scrapped utility item meant to protect Worms from upcoming attacks. This purpose is fulfilled by the Bubble Trouble utility of the retail game, which the Bunker may have been a precursor to.

Early Box Art#

To celebrate their 100th game release in 2018, Team17 made a retrospective featuring all of their previous games through blogposts, providing short commentaries and tidbits about the development of each of them. On Nov. 7, 2018, Team17's 45th game, Worms 4: Mayhem, was featured and included an exclusive look at "An early concept for the Worms 4 Mayhem packshot, next to the final design, both by artist Nic Gomersall".

The art is clearly a rougher version of the retail box art, missing details and polish, having a different costume for the second Worm, and some placement differences for the foreground weapons. What's most notable about the early box art is the helmet worn by the main Worm, it appears to be an early design for the "Marine" helmet which is the one it wears in the retail box art.
