This page details pre-release information and/or media for U.N. Squadron (SNES).

US Box Stills#

The back of the US box is interesting in that it appears to showcase an earlier build of the game in its screenshots (unlike the other two regions). The game appears to be in a near-complete state, with only modest changes being made for the release version.

HUD Differences#

  • HI-SCORE and 1P-SCORE were replaced with a singular SCORE counter. The released game does not save high scores, nor does it support multiplayer.
  • The aircraft the player is currently piloting is displayed above the weapon level. This was removed in the released game.
  • The area displaying POW and TOTAL was redone.
  • The player's health gauge appears to be placed in the bottom left corner with no lives counter visible.

Enemy Airforce#

Pre-Release

Final

The player's Tomcat in the pre-release shot appears to be firing Phoenix missiles, a weapon which it cannot equip in the final game.

Frontline Base#

Pre-Release

Final

The level has different enemy placements, and has a completely different background. The F8E Crusader's main gun also apparently had a max POW level of two in the pre-release game, which was increased to five in the final.

Forest#

Pre-Release

Final

Nothing special, just some enemy rearrangements.

Pre-Release

Final

More enemy reaarangements; helicopters don't appear at all in the forest level in the final game. Trees don't appear to be destructible in the pre-release version either.

US Box

CSG

Final

The CSG trailer seems to be a midpoint between the build from the back of the US box and the final game.

  • The HI-SCORE has been removed, but 1P-SCORE has yet to be changed to simply SCORE.
  • The aircraft above the weapon level has been removed.
  • The POW and TOTAL box has been changed from portrait to landscape, but it does not quite match the final yet. A white line separating the two areas was added, and the words were slightly repositioned.
  • Lives counter has been added.
