Animation Reels#
Tumblehead Studios#
This animation reel was released sometime around 20131 and, for several years, went largely unnoticed before being rediscovered in 2020. The video was produced by Tumblehead Studios, a Danish animation firm. Despite their seemingly significant contribution to the project, the studio's name is nowhere to be found in the game's credits, and there are no known mentions of their involvement outside of their own website.
The reel provides a rare look at the earliest known version of The Wolf Among Us, showcasing animations and scenes from a much earlier state of development. It contains several examples of cut content that no longer exists in the game's files. While some of these elements were already known to exist through context clues, developer interviews, and other sources, this footage reveals how several of these previously unseen concepts were originally intended to appear. Among the content shown are Clorinda's apartment and Cinderella's fight with the Tweedle Dee brothers, and many other sequences that never came to be.
Breakdown#
Scenes |
Description |
|---|---|
Clorinda's Apartment |
The first scene shows Bigby closing a toilet lid. This scene takes place in Clorinda's apartment; we know this because the surrounding props perfectly match those seen in the only known concept art from this period of development. |
The following scene shows Bigby shutting a window. We know this is Clorinda's apartment because the lamp fixtures match those seen in the concept art, and the final game still contains leftover animations related to inspecting a window in her apartment. |
|
White Queen's Apartment |
This clip shows Bigby shoving Snow White inside the White Queen's apartment. We know this is the White Queen's apartment because the environment matches the apartment later used as Sleeping Beauty and Beast's home in the final game, which was repurposed. |
Bigby |
The third scene shows Bigby getting up from a chair. Given the room's size and layout, this appears to be an earlier version of his office, which remained largely unchanged. For some reason, Bigby seems to be wearing a earring. |

|
Georgie Porgie |
The fourth clip consists of several shots of Georgie Porgie lying on the floor He appears frightened and is shown cowering, shielding his head before cautiously looking around. The sequence ends with him turning to look behind his back as the camera quickly rushes toward him. Interestingly, he is wearing a pimp outfit, which is a pretty a stark contrast to his appearance in the final game. This could suggest that, like many other characters, Georgie originally had a very different role in the story before the rewrites. |
In a later scene, he is shown having a conversation with another character before suddenly being startled by something. He immediately sits upright, knocking a coffee mug off the table in the process. |
|
Later in the video, we return to the first scene. Georgie Porgie is shown on his knees, where he appears to be either shot or struck in the face with a blunt object. |
|
Cinderella's Fight |
The final set piece in the reel consists of a fight between Cinderella and the Tweedle Dee brothers on a suspended scaffolding. At one point, the scaffolding collapses, crushing the brothers beneath it, implying that its support cables had snapped. The final clip shows them flipping the scaffolding over before opening fire on Cinderella, seemingly killing her. The reel concludes with one of the brothers chuckling maniacally. |
Notes#
- As revealed by animation and choreography files found in a prototype of Tales from the Borderlands, the character wearing the pimp outfit was originally intended to be Georgie Porgie. The head model was later repurposed for Grendel.
- This version of Georgie Porgie was internally referred as "Georgie", while the final version is named "Porgie".
Armando Lluch's Reel#
This animation showcase was released in October 20192 by former Telltale animator Armando Lluch.
Cinderella#
Much like her comic counterpart, Cinderella was originally intended to be a covert spy. Early development screenshots3 show an earlier version of her character model wearing a pink jumpsuit.

The earliest known piece of concept art from the game's original storyline. It depicts a bathroom with a woman, presumably Clorinda, slumped over a bloodied bathtub. The image was revealed as part of a GamesRadar4 interview discussing the game's early development. The identity of the artist behind this piece remains unknown, and, outside of the small excerpt shown in the interview, the artwork has never resurfaced in higher quality or in full. Very little is known about Clorinda herself or the role she played in the original version of the story. However, evidence found within the game's files suggests that this location progressed well beyond the concept stage. Numerous leftover assets related to the apartment still remain. Things like textures, animations, gameplay sequences, and mechanics are associated with the apartment, suggesting it had already been fully modeled and implemented before ultimately being cut. |
