This page details pre-release information and/or media for Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

After the Dreamcast started to decline and Sega transitioned to becoming a third-party developer, it was nigh time to bring Sonic Adventure 2 onto a more successful console.

Critical reception was also positive, even if it wasn't as big as the game's original release. Still, this title along with Sonic Advance tided over the blue blur's relevancy during Sega's transition, until the following year...

Trailer#

Watch on YouTubeThe first footage of Sonic Adventure 2 on the GameCube released by Sega. The port is still in mid-development at this point, with bugs present in the trailer.

  • No "Battle" subtitle at this point.
  • A lot of Pyramid Cave's background objects haven't been implemented yet, instead showing up as rings.
  • The B-button prompt appears broken and still uses the Dreamcast graphic.
  • Sonic is still using his Dreamcast model.
  • The starting camera for Green Forest doesn't seem to be implemented yet, as it shows the ramp that Sonic flies off, instead of the camera showing Sonic flying in the air and landing like in the final.

Gameplay#

Watch on YouTubeA demo consisting of City Escape and Green Forest was playable, many of the assets for which can be found in the final game. (Gameplay starts at 8:12 in the video)

  • City Escape still uses its geometry and object layout from the Dreamcast version. For the geometry, this includes the grass "WELCOME" sign and lack of overhead beams during the section where Sonic runs down the building. For objects, this includes the flower planter placed near where Sonic lands after the board section and the GUN hunter near the first Chao box.
  • The advertisement posters in City Escape use their GameCube designs, such as the blue SOAP poster.
  • There is no stage progress bar in 2P mode, like the Dreamcast version.
  • Upon leaving a stage, a "COMING SOON" screen appears. The image for this screen still exists in the final game inside coming.prs.

Tokyo Game Show 2001 Trailer#

Watch on YouTubeWatch on YouTubeShows an almost-finished game, with just a few minor differences. This footage was reused for a different trailer that was included in Sonic Mega Collection.

  • Pyramid Cave's sky is black.
  • The title screen is shown in English, but the in-game text is Japanese. It's possible the Japanese title screen hadn't been created yet.
  • Trees in City Escape suffer from transparency issues.
  • Some parts of Final Rush glitch out the lighting or fail to load.
