EGM Issue 9 (April 1990)#

Featuring some significant differences to the final release, and at this point is much closer to the original DOS version, Tongue of the Fatman (even using the same name). The magazine's date also suggests this predates the Mondu's Fight Palace prototype.

Apart from the change in title, the background of the title screen was changed to that of a different stage...which makes sense, as the prerelease stage is not in the final game.

Dr. Kadaver! Dr. Kadaver sold you your weapons in Tongue of the Fatman, and was apparently planned to return for the Genesis port, now renamed to "Dr. U.B. Feelgood". There are differences between the original DOS art and the planned Genesis version, such as Kadaver's coloring and the decorations in the room. The final game ousts him entirely, opting for blue text on a black background.
The prerelease shop seems to function closer to the final game, allowing the player to upgrade their stats, although instead of "Health" they can upgrade "Strength". The magical weapon shown at the bottom of the screen does not seem to match any in the final game.

As mentioned before, the stage shown in the prerelease screenshots is not present in the final game. It does bear a resemblance to the only stage in the original DOS version, though. The HUD is different to the final game, particularly in its inclusion of a timer. The final game has no time limit for fights. The color scheme for Rex's shorts seem to match the original game, with a blue belt and red stripe.
