This page details pre-release information and/or media for Shogo: Mobile Armor Division.

Shogo was the product of a rather long and troubled development. The game's own closing credits summarize its production rather well:

A long time ago in a galaxy much bigger than my calves... There was this game called 'Heavy Metal' and life was good. But then life turned bad so we changed the name to 'Metal Tek' ...and once again, life was good. Real good. Okay, life was still bad so we changed the name to 'Riot'. Now life was good, for real this time. But, as always happens, something just had to screw things up and we needed to change name again. Okay, we just couldn't control ourselves and we changed it for no real reason. The name would be... [ SHOGO ] Did I mention the huge email threads about all of these names? Never mind...

To do:

  • Timestamps for the Shogo footage in the video, along with other differences and polishing up the bullet points here.
  • Early gameplay footage that was included with Get Medieval.

Watch on YouTube

A promotional video for the LithTech Engine dated April 15th, 1998, featuring early footage of Shogo: Mobile Armor Division (under the name Riot), Blood II: The Chosen, Draedon (cancelled) and Claw 3D (also cancelled).

  • Rough HUD and darkblue MAC10.
    • Civilians wore khaki clothes.
    • Leviathan's MCA docks were more colorful.
    • MCAs and vehicles were brown.
    • Shock Trooper were gray/khaki?
    • MAC10 fire rate was insanely fast (and it has different sounds).
    • "Wrong sector" couple was in the end of the level, closer to the train.
    • Train itself is there, with open doors, while in release version, it only appears in a cutscene and never opens its doors
    • Laser Cannon had a faster fire rate and green projectiles.
    • An Unknown gun (might be Pin Puncher) Its icon was mistakenly used as an icon for Laser Cannon on thenow-defunct shogo-mad.com
    • Bullgut used to have a green display
    • Unknown gun (might be early version of Red Riot?)

Concept Arts#

Several pieces of concept art were posted by Monolith on their Facebook page to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary in 2018. Some of these had been floating around publicly beforehand, but most were new.
