Watch on YouTubeA Japanese promotional disc contains a video of the game with some noticeable differences from the final:
- 0:14 PaRappa appears very large in Stage 1.
- 0:18 PJ Berri, Katy Kat, and Sunny Funny use different models in the cutscenes.
- 0:19 All the road signs in the background are winding road signs.
- 0:22 Completely different background.
- 0:28 PaRappa has an angrier expression.
- 0:32 There are no buildings or fence next to Phat Donut.
- 0:37 Chop Chop Master Onion has no transition to his bad mode animation, and slightly different eye textures.
- 0:42 Everyone's walking animations is different. This seems to be a version of the cutscene between the 1995 prototype and the final version, both of which can be seen below.
- 1:41 Neither Cheep Cheep nor PaRappa have any lipsync, and the eggs do not line up with their hands.
Scrapped Stage#
The game's disc includes an S4 directory that is completely empty, hinting at a scrapped stage that would've likely taken place after PaRappa gets a new car at the end of Stage 3. Due to this, every stage after Stage 3 is increased by one, meaning Stage 4 (Cheep Cheep) is actually S5 internally and so on. Concept art dated December 12, 1995 indicating General Potter was the teacher for the scrapped Stage 4.
According to the PaRappa the Rapper guide book on page 51, his stage would've taken place between stages 5 and 6, bringing the total number of stages to 7. The song was a military chant while PaRappa does chores for him at Sunny Funny's house. A small remnant of this stage in the final game is during stage 6's opening cutscene where PaRappa meets while picking up Sunny Funny. The character himself would go on to have a much more prominent role in the sequel.
