Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

To do:
The game's old website has a bunch of screenshots and videos on it, very likely with differences. Also try to find any information about the game prior to Capcom's involvement and when it was just meant to be a Namco crossover game, along with more prerelease stuff.

Namco × Capcom started in 2003 intended as a crossover of just Namco characters before Capcom was thrown into the mix to make it "more exciting" in the developers own words.

Development Timeline#

2003#

  • Unknown - The game starts development, initially proposed as just a internal crossover of Namco characters for the company's 50th anniversary. Namco gets in contact with Capcom to achieve a larger roster.

2005#

  • January - Capcom and Namco announce the game, which is 70% completed at this point.
  • May 26 - The game is released in Japan.

Early development#

Namco × Capcom started life out as a game without Capcom. Original proposed as a internal crossover for Namco's 50th anniversary with the aim of a roster of 100 characters. The team then wanted a larger roster so to help achieve this and create a "more exciting" experience, Namco got in contact with Capcom.

Character changes#

Saya was originally written to be a "brutal and irritating" character, but her interactions with Xiaomu and input by her voice actress Ai Orikasa would led to her being changed into having a "big sister persona", which forced multiple rewrites to the script.
