This page details pre-release information and/or media for Mystery Case Files: 13th Skull.

On November 3, 2014, the game's art director Jeff Haynie released the concept artwork and sketches he did for 13th Skull on Behance.1

Concept Art#

Fish Fountain#

Rough artwork for the fish fountain outside the manor. It doesn't seem to have been changed much; the most notable difference is the "Shift" engraving, which was removed for the final artwork.

Manor Study#

The basic structure of the manor's study hasn't really been changed either. In the final, the angle was changed, the lighting is green instead of blue, and it was made significantly less neat.

Concept Art

Final

River Pier#

Concept art for a pier by the river, a location not used in the final. It's unknown exactly why it was cut; a lack of possible puzzles/hidden object scenes may have played a part. The final treasure map does have the pier on it, suggesting that it may have stayed as an idea during development for a while.

Disguise#

Concept art for Marcus Lawson/Dennis Blanston's disguise.

Swamp Pillar#

This appears to be an early concept for the submerged cannons in the swamp, instead being a mermaid statue.

Steamboat#

This concept art depicts a steamboat, which isn't ever seen in the final game. Judging from the sunken pirate ships, it was most likely intended for the bonus game.

Sketches#

Manor Entrance#

Sketches of (what looks like) the manor entrance and a sunken ship in the swamp. The warning sign at the manor was moved to be in the swamp for the final.
